Watching Dexter get into the car, Preston folded up his umbrella and turned to walk away. The respect he had shown before was now gone.

A woman was stepping off the escalator, her gaze fixated on something outside. A look of joy spread across her face. “Dexter!”

Preston's footsteps halted as he watched the woman brush past him and head straight for the black car. An attendant was holding an umbrella for her.

“Dexter, what a coincidence. You're here on business today too?” Juliette bent slightly as she knocked on the car window, her face full of smiles.

Dexter lowered the car window by a quarter, obscuring most of the view inside the car, revealing only his eyes. “It's already over. What's up?”

“I've just reached Wavery and was immediately bombarded with an overwhelming amount of social obligations. I'm so exhausted.”

“It'll get better over time.”

“It's rare to see you out and about. Seems like you're dealing with quite a challenging situation,” Juliette said half-jokingly, hands clasped behind her back.

Dexter gave a slight nod. “The rain is getting heavier. You should head home as soon as possible. It's not safe out there.”

Is he worried about me? Juliette secretly rejoiced. She was about to reply when the phone she was holding in her hand started to vibrate violently. She held it up and to her surprise, it was a call from Winona. Her expression changed. “What's wrong?”

Dexter's gaze fell upon the still-angry Grape. Coupled with what Moses had said earlier, he couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy.

“Josie is in trouble?” Juliette blurted out, unable to contain herself after hearing what Winona had said.

Suddenly, Dexter lifted his gaze and glanced at her.

“Calm down and tell me slowly. What do you mean by Maverick has taken her away for a social engagement and they're still drinking at the table?”

Juliette was flustered. This was something she hadn't anticipated.

“Send me the address. I'll be right there.”

“Are they still inside?”

“They keep plying Ms. Warren with drinks. She tried to leave at one point, but they immediately stopped her. There are too many of them. She simply couldn't get away. I managed to sneak out when they weren't paying attention.”

“Have they lost their minds? Isn't she one of their own? What's with the show of force? They should be reported to the police!” Juliette was so infuriated that she was about to storm in and confront them when Dexter grabbed her arm to stop her.

His eyes were as dark as night, emanating an overwhelming pressure. “You have no standing in Wavery. It's pointless for you to go there.”

“Then...”

“I'll go.”
