Dexter was idly toying with a lighter, his patience seemingly on the thin side.

“Who told you that I have a thing for women in white gowns?”

That single sentence struck Juliette like a lightning bolt, causing her to freeze in place, and she could barely keep her smile on her face. Clenching the cutlery beside her plate tightly, she asked, “What?”

Dexter glared at her, feeling nothing but annoyance. He didn't have the patience to waste time with her.

“You're a good woman, but you don't need to waste your energy on me. I'm not worth it.”

Years of hidden feelings were exposed just like that, without any buildup or preparation.

Juliette's smile turned incredibly bitter, but she understood Dexter. He wouldn't have been so disrespectful if he hadn't reached his limit.

Her lips parted, and she said, “Dexter, I... I haven't even confessed my feelings yet.”

He remained silent.

“How could you ever think you're not worth it? I've been on my own for so long, taking over the family affairs at just twenty-two years old. I've weathered countless storms and met many men over the years, but none have made me feel the way you do. Dexter, everything you do shines in my eyes. I'm captivated by you. I even expanded my business to Wavery because of you. Everyone says that I'm one of the few female friends by your side. I thought I was a bit different, at least. Was I not?”

Casting all caution to the wind, Juliette laid bare her feelings. Her only desire was to elicit even the slightest waver from the cool-headed man before her.

Dexter wanted to say something, but just then, his phone, which was placed on the table, rang. He reached out to grab it immediately, but Juliette was quicker. She pinned his hand down and urged, “Let me finish.”

A wave of frustration suddenly surged within Dexter, and he put more strength into pulling his hand free. “Let go.”
