The man was so scared that he started shaking. He stumbled away, looking like he was running 

for his life 

Seeing this, Howard’s eyebrow twitched. A bad feeling grew in his gut. 

A wicked look flashed in Kirk’s eyes as he sat in the middle of the couch. 

Howard braced himself and laughed as he faced the crowd. “Let me go up for a look. You can all 

chat. Don’t mind us…” 

As he spoke, he stumbled upstairs, nearly tripping a few times. 

When he got to the second floor, he looked around at the empty master bedroom and strode over to the butler. Lowering his voice, he questioned, “Where’s the madam?” 

The butler instantly went down on his knees. “Sir, the madam… She hasn’t been back since she went out yesterday. I’ve been trying to contact her all this time, but I didn’t manage to get through 

to her.” 

Howard kicked the butler in the chest. “You useless fool. Why are you telling me such an important piece of news now?” 

The butler clutched his chest. “Sir, I sent people out to search for her yesterday, but no one’s found her, even now. We should make a police report immediately.” 

Howard gritted his teeth and said, “Let me ask you something. Why did she go out yesterday?” 

“S–she… she…” The butler lowered his head, not daring to tell Howard. 

Howard was so angry that he felt like he was about to have a heart attack. “Are you still not going to tell me at this point?” 

With no other choice, the butler could only answer tremblingly, “To capture … Caroline.” 

Howard’s voice was high as he shouted, “What did you say?” 

“She went to capture Caroline,” the butler repeated. 

Howard was so infuriated that he kicked the butler several more times. “Why did she want to 

capture Caroline? Don’t you know I signed a contract with Mr. Kirk?”

“Yes, sir!” The butler scrambled to get up from the ground. Without caring for his pride, he raced 

down the stairs. 

Downstairs, the guests couldn’t help but look up at the butler as he left the house. Right then, 

Howard’s voice drifted down from the second floor. 

“I’m so sorry, everyone. We forgot to buy some drinks. I’ve sent someone to get to it now. Let’s-” 

Before he could finish, the butler retreated from the front entrance. He was trembling even harder 

now than he had been before. 

“You piece of shit! I asked you to do something. How can you be so-” 

Howard’s voice suddenly came to a stop. He watched as the police came in and hurried 

downstairs. “Officers, what brings you here?” 

The policeman at the front was stern as he brought out an arrest warrant. “Good evening, we’re 

here to see Jane Dawson. She’s implicated in an abduction and murder case.”
