Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 642

Maggie stood there, utterly baffled as she looked at the man before her.

He said he wouldn't help, so why the sudden about-face?

What was he really trying to say?

Feeling the man's concern, Maggie's eyes grew moist.

Why did she have to fall for this infuriatingly fickle guy?

Suddenly, she was filled with regret.

She should have faced her fears that morning when Yuna had asked her point-blank if Fred truly loved her, instead of running away.

A little more courage would have made all the difference.

After all, life was tough as nails already—how much worse could it get? Maybe, just maybe, God was mixing in a tiny, unexpected blessing with all the hardship?

To hell with it.

Live for today, for tomorrow is uncertain—the man's kindness was as unpredictable as the weather.

She didn't have the energy to second-guess what was in his heart anymore.

Things as they stood were fine.

Ten minutes later.

Maggie got her hands on the surveillance footage she'd been longing for and hurried with Fred to the outskirts of town, where Yuna had been transferred to the VIP suite of the local hospital after getting her wounds treated.

When Hackett saw Maggie appear, he was livid:

“I haven’t even started to settle the score with you, and here you are showing up on my doorstep! Perfect, you can start by accounting for every single loss you've caused the company!”

Then he turned to Penelope, “Perfect timing. You can witness just how your so-called goddaughter will disappoint you!”

Maggie didn't bother with pleasantries, calmly pulling out her phone and opening the gallery.

“Mr. Fitzgerald, before we start tallying up, I suggest you take a look at this surveillance footage.”

Yuna was taken aback.

Yuna bit her lip, unable to utter a single coherent word.

“It's really quite the mystery, isn't it? Yuna wasn’t even responsible for this project, so what was her assistant doing there?”

Maggie's casual inquiry was like a spark to Penelope's kindling rage.

She glared at Yuna, demanding, “Give me a good explanation, now!”

Yuna, looking like a deer caught in headlights, twisted her features in distress.

“What's there to explain?! Mom, it's not my fault! I didn't start the fire! And why Linda did it, I have no clue!”

Penelope, looking at Yuna's innocent facade, felt her heart twist into knots.

Just moments ago, Yuna had heroically dashed into the blaze for the sake of the project, moving Penelope deeply.

Her stance on Yuna had been softening, even thinking that despite Yuna's usual arrogance, she wasn't all bad—she had her merits.

But the moment Maggie produced that video, Penelope's doubts resurfaced.
