Penelope leaned against the cold wall, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. Her heart was in agony, and she felt utterly powerless as she overheard the conversation between the mother and daughter continuing in the next room.

“Mom! Do you remember me telling you that I’d make the Fitzgeralds take our name?”

Zoe was taken aback, “What do you mean by that?”

Yuna sneered, then a wicked smile spread across her face:

“Since I’m your daughter with Hackett, everything becomes much simpler. Mom, can you honestly say you’ve never had real feelings for Hackett? Can you say you don’t dream of marrying into the Fitzgerald family, becoming the envy of everyone? If you want, I’ll move heaven and earth to help you!”

Zoe was shocked by Yuna’s thoughts, “Sweetheart, wanting something is one thing, but doing it is another! I get what you’re saying, but don’t think Penelope is like those pushovers just because she comes off cold! She’s fierce and ruthless. Turning Poppy Petal Fragrances into a trendsetter in the cosmetics world proves she’s not ordinary! You combined wouldn’t stand a chance against her!”

Zoe’s words weren’t lost on Yuna. Living with the Fitzgeralds for the past few weeks, she’d clashed with Penelope multiple times. This woman was indeed not like the usual high society ladies. Beneath her graceful exterior was a woman of strong will and control!

Zoe said, quickly looking around to make sure no one was passing by, then she whispered: “By the way, I just visited Barnes in the hospital before applying the medicine; he’s still unconscious, probably won’t wake up anytime soon.”

Yuna raised her voice with pride, “Of course! The dose I gave him was the strongest, he won’t be waking up anytime soon! But we can’t leave him be! When Freddie was pressuring him, he was about to spill that Hayes Winston is Freddie and Marguerite’s shared secret. You have no idea how scared I was! So, what if he wakes up? We can’t let him live! I need to find a way to finish him off!”

Yuna looked at Zoe smugly, as if those atrocious deeds were trophies to be boasted about. Unexpectedly, just as her words fell, a loud thud came from the kitchen. Startled, both mother and daughter jumped. Zoe instinctively ran into the kitchen, only to find Penelope staring at her with fiery, red eyes, filled with loathing.
