Yuna seemed utterly unfazed, a smirk even playing at the corners of her mouth.
"If you don't come help now, she'll really end up in the river! And once the Fitzgerald family starts digging, neither of us will be able to wash our hands of it!"
Zoe was screaming at the top of her lungs, feeling like her throat was on fire.
She had her hands pressed against the hood of the car, but her strength was so meager that stopping the car was out of the question. All she could manage was to slightly slow it down.
The moment she let go, Penelope, along with the car, would swiftly tumble into the ravine.
Finally, Yuna deigned to open her eyes, looking coldly into the driver's seat to find Penelope already passed out. Slumped back in her seat, her face slightly blue from the impact of the airbag, blood even trickling from her nose.
This ghastly scene only seemed to excite Yuna further.
She looked up at Zoe with a smile, counter-questioning, "Mom, since you've worked for the Fitzgerald family, you ought to know Penelope best. Do you think she'd let us off the hook just because we save her life?"
Zoe hesitated, caught off guard.
Indeed!
Penelope had always been fiercely competitive, knowing that Yuna had not only taken over Marguerite's identity but also stolen her daughter's child. How could she simply forgive and forget just because they saved her life?
"But if you kill her, aren't you afraid of getting caught? Yuna, do you want Mom to end up in jail with you?"
At this, Yuna burst into laughter, her belly aching with the force of it, before her expression abruptly hardened, replaced by a sinister and malicious glare.
"Mom, you're too naive! I've already dealt with Laverne, did Frederick find out? Besides, in these remote wilds, with not a traffic light or camera in sight, traffic accidents are all too common, aren't they?"
When Laverne was dealt with by Yuna, she wasn't at the scene. She had never seen with her own eyes just how terrifying a ruthless Yuna could be.
But today, witnessing it firsthand, Zoe felt a bone-chilling terror! She realized Yuna was becoming more frightening, her actions more akin to those of a madwoman. And it seemed, they were now past the point of no return.
Yuna's expression remained eerily calm throughout. Aside from her blood-red eyes, Zoe could hardly discern any emotion in her. As if she had grown numb to such deeds long ago.
Swallowing hard, she looked at her daughter in disbelief and asked, "Is there... any chance she could still be alive?"
Yuna curled her lip, staring down at the dark, gaping hole in the ice below, and slowly uttered four words:
"Absolutely impossible."
Falling from such a height onto the ice was akin to jumping off a building. Not even a miracle could save her now.
