Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 850

So she wasn't the only one who noticed—Stella had picked up on it too.

But Marguerite Lockwood had already figured out the reason: it was nothing more than a simple resemblance.

“It’s not that strange, really. The world’s a big place. Two people having similar souls? That happens all the time.”

“But they’re alike in so many ways! At work, they’re decisive and unstoppable. When it comes to love, it’s the same story—once they fall for someone, nothing else matters. They’d go to hell and back just to be with you.

But here’s what I don’t get: my friend told me Silas Ward has never been the sentimental type, but the moment he met you, he just lost it. He doesn’t act like someone falling in love for the first time!”

Marguerite barely heard a word of Stella’s rambling. The more she tried to think, the more her mind spun out of control. She slumped into the sofa, feeling as if every ounce of strength—and even her soul—had been drained out of her.

Noticing that Marguerite clearly didn’t want to discuss this any further, Stella suddenly perked up, propping herself on the sofa and resting her chin in her hands as she looked Marguerite over with excited curiosity.

“Alright, let’s table the Silas talk for now. Tell me—Is it true? Is Miley Goldie really pregnant?”

Marguerite’s heart skipped a beat, but she recovered quickly and lied without batting an eye.

“No, it’s not true.”

Stella didn’t buy it. “Then how come Maurice Winston just told me she is?”

“I wouldn’t believe a word out of his mouth. He’s just trying to mess with you—and you’re so lovesick you fall for it every time.”

Stella stared at her, dead serious. “Really?”

“Really.”

With Marguerite’s confirmation, Stella broke into a happy little cheer.

By all accounts, Marguerite ought to have told Stella the truth about Miley’s pregnancy—maybe then Stella would finally give up.

But Stella had never been the type to play by the rules.

If Miley marrying Robert Fitzgerald wasn’t enough to make Stella back off, did anyone really think a pregnancy would stop her?

Marguerite was actually more afraid Stella might set her sights on Miley’s unborn child.

So, she decided to keep it under wraps for as long as possible—at least until Miley was out of the woods.

For all her worries, Marguerite couldn’t help but admire Stella.

Marguerite herself drew a hard line between love and hate—she and Maurice were enemies, through and through.

Stella, on the other hand, could effortlessly walk the line between both sides. Whether she was with Marguerite or with Maurice, she always seemed to maintain a peaceful relationship.

Stella was nothing like the harmless, innocent girl she appeared to be.
