Bride To Be Not Me (Janice and Simon) novel Chapter 298

At that moment, rejecting the proposal outright would undoubtedly offend the Swanwick family. They might even retaliate against Edward's business. It was a classic move in the world of politics.

Robert remained silent for a moment before nodding. "You're right. Both children are exceptional, and I'd be happy to see the two of them together."

Hearing that, the three members of the Swanwick family broke into smiles.

Kellan immediately said, "Lissie, why don't you exchange contact information with Mr. Edward? He's a busy man, so you should visit Greenfield City more often—"

"There's no rush," Robert interrupted.

He continued, "I do admire Ms. Swanwick. She's well-educated, poised, and carries herself with grace. But as you know, in our line of work, every move is scrutinized. Even the slightest misstep can become a political liability.

"Edward already has a girlfriend. I can't ask him to break up over this. What would others think of my family, then?

"Young people are fickle—relationships come and go. Let things take their natural course. If they don't work out in the end and if these two are truly meant to be, they'll find their way to each other. Don't you agree?"

With that, he raised his glass to Kellan. "Our children will forge their own paths. Let's not rush them."

Kellan hadn't expected Robert to turn him down so tactfully. It was a slap in the face. But then again, Robert had a point.

If Edward broke up with his girlfriend because of Lysette, people would have plenty to say about both families. For politicians, personal and family reputation was everything.

Kellan accepted the toast and didn't bring up the matter again for the rest of the evening.

After dinner, Edward rose to his feet. "Mr. and Mrs. Swanwick, I have some urgent business to attend to at the company, so I'll take my leave now. I'll visit you another time."

"Of course. Go ahead," Kellan said before turning to his daughter. "Lissie, see him off."

"Okay." Lysette stood up.

Edward didn't refuse.

They walked together to the Moore residence's entrance, where his car was already waiting.

Harrison, who had been in the passenger seat, noticed them walking out. When Edward's gaze locked on him, Harrison immediately got the message and stepped out of the car.

"Mr. Moore, will you be free tomorrow—"

Before she could finish, Harrison approached in a hurry. "Mr. Moore, Ms. Smith hasn't been feeling well. She barely touched her dinner and has been throwing up all evening. She's at the hospital now."
