Upon hearing these words, Emma looked up. Her eyes were red and swollen, and she mumbled, "Sorry, I didn't mean it."
Ines looked at her eyes, so much like her own, and all her anger dissipated. However, she didn’t like being called "big sister", so she said sternly, "Emma, don’t play dumb. You know you're older than me, so I'm not your big sister."
Even though Ines was frowning, Emma knew she wasn’t angry, otherwise she would have left her crying alone by now. Thinking of this, Emma couldn’t help but let a sly smile show on her face, "Anyway, I'm used to calling you that way, so I'm just gonna keep calling you sister."
Just a few months older, she didn't mind playing the younger sibling.
Ines turned her head awkwardly and muttered, "I don't look that old."
"I don't care, I like calling you that." Emma said.
Seeing Emma clinging to her arm, Ines felt somewhat helpless, "I never realized you were like this."
Emma gave a wry smile, "I never thought the person who would end up caring about me the most would be the person I used to hate the most, the enemy I imagined from the day I knew she existed."
Ines didn't respond, and Emma looked at her again seriously, "I really know I was wrong, I've read the diary you gave me several times. This time off work, I've been thinking a lot at home, and I realized that dad really loved me. He sacrificed so much for me, even hurting the person he loved the most. It was my mom and I who ruined your original family, I'm sorry."
As she spoke, Emma was about to get out of bed to bow to Ines. But Ines noticed and immediately pressed her shoulders, saying sternly, "What are you trying to do? You just gave birth; you should be resting in bed."
Emma obediently lay back down, smiling as she continued, "Dad's gone, and the Galeana family is just the two of us. No matter what happened in the past, we should look forward. From now on, you're my real sister."
What bothered her the most was the unfair treatment between her and Ines by Hunter. They were both his daughters, but in his eyes, Ines was always first.
She was always bothered by the fact that Hunter thought she couldn't compare to Ines.
Now, she understood thoroughly that there were indeed disparities between people. Some things couldn't be ignored just because she thought they shouldn't exist or she was not satisfied with them. She had been deceiving herself.
It wasn't until now that she finally understood the meaning of her dad’s last words, "You can only do as much as you're capable of."
Upon hearing this, Emma started crying again. Ines helplessly said, "Emma, stop crying. If others don't know, they might think I'm bullying you."
Suddenly remembering her baby, Emma stopped crying immediately. She looked anxiously at Eda, "Eda, where's my Jasmine? Why haven't I seen her?"
"You finally remembered you have a daughter. I thought you only cared about crying." Eda laughed.
"I just felt wronged and couldn't help crying." Emma said somewhat awkwardly. The feeling of waking up with a loved one by her side was really nice. Her tears just came out naturally, she couldn't control them.
If possible, she wouldn't want to be so emotional.
"But where is my Jasmine? Is there any problem with her?" She passed out after hearing her baby cry and didn't have a chance to ask about the baby. Seeing Emma's anxious expression, Ines, who was also a mother-to-be, could understand her feelings. She explained, "Don't worry, the baby is fine, very healthy, almost like a full-term baby. The baby has been taken by the doctors for a detailed check-up. Silas is there with her, there won't be any major issues. You just need to rest easy."
Emma gently patted her chest, "That's good. I was really scared just now and really worried that something might happen to her." Now, she only had her baby to rely on. As for Aiden, she had completely given up on him. He didn't even come over for such an important event as her giving birth. Once might be excusable. But if it happened two or three times, it would really be his problem of not caring enough, unrelated to other factors.
