Hearing this, Ethan relaxed a bit. The little girl in his arms seemed to feel it, her eyelashes quivered slightly, then slowly opened her eyes. The nurse, seeing this, couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, this little girl is quick, she's opened her eyes already."
Ethan looked at the little girl in his arms, who had eyes identical to Ines's. He had to admit, it was a feature shared by all three members of the Galeana family. He marveled at the wonder of genetics.
At this, Ethan finally broke into a smile. On the side, Ines teased, "Ethan, you should take this chance to learn how to hold a baby. You can't even hold one properly now, what are you going to do when our child is born?"
Ethan didn't seem to care, but he was visibly more relaxed and even started to hum a lullaby to soothe Jasmine in his arms.
The nurse realized that she had mistaken Ethan's identity and awkwardly explained, "I'm sorry, I thought you were the father. It seems I was mistaken."
"No worries, he may not be her father, but he's family." Ines explained with a smile.
After Ethan held the baby for a while, Ines also wanted to hold her. At that moment, the nurse told Ethan, "Sir, I need to take the baby for a full check-up and then decide whether she needs to stay in the incubator. You can hand her over to me."
Ethan reluctantly handed the baby to the nurse, feeling suddenly empty.
Seeing his reluctant expression, Ines couldn't help but tease him, "Are you jealous?"
Ethan smiled, "Yes, I am. I wish our child could be born soon. I can hardly wait."
"Don't rush now. Newborns are cute because they don't cry or fuss. Wait till they grow a bit, two of them will definitely give you a headache." Ines said.
Ines gently stroked her belly. Despite her words, she was also very much looking forward to it.
"It's okay, all children grow up like this, it's called innocence. We adults can't even manage to be as pure as them." Ethan said with a smile.
"As long as you think so, you can't complain in the future." Ines said.
"I won't." Ethan promised.
Ines decided not to continue the discussion. Silas came to tell them that Emma had something to say to them and asked them to go see her. He would go check on Jasmine.
In the ward, Emma was resting in bed. Aside from being a bit pale, she didn't seem to have any serious issues.
Shirley was really shameless. She took everything from her daughter and when she ran out, she asked for more.
Seeing her sobbing, Ines didn't know what to do. Having a mother like that was truly unfortunate.
She wanted to comfort Emma, but her words came out harsh, "Crying won't help now. The money is yours. If you decide not to give it to her, what can she do? Stop crying every time something happens. Tears won't solve problems."
Upon hearing Ines's words, Emma cried even harder, gasping for breath.
Ines felt a bit guilty and thought she might have been too harsh. Just as she was about to leave, Emma grabbed her arm tightly and pleaded, "Don't go, big sis, stay with me a bit longer."
Ines was taken aback. But seeing the plea and vulnerability in Emma's eyes, she felt a pang in her heart and decided to stay.
Emma clung to her, crying uncontrollably. Soon, Ines felt her sleeve get drenched with tears. But Emma didn't seem to care, clinging to her tightly, smearing her clothes with tears and snot.
Seeing her like this, Ines let out a deep sigh, brushing the sticky hair off her face and tucking it behind her ears. She patiently helped Emma fix her hair. It had been a while, but Emma showed no signs of stopping her crying. Ines finally couldn't help but speak up, raising her voice in slight annoyance, "Emma, can you stop already? You planning on soaking my entire outfit?" She never imagined Emma would be like this when she cried, just like a little kid, without a care in the world.
