Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 317

While the two were chatting, a nurse walked in and announced loudly, "Baby number 057, have you guys named her yet? The hospital needs to fill out her birth certificate, so we need some basic information about the parents and the baby."

There were tons of babies born in the hospital, and each newborn was assigned a number as soon as they popped out, usually in the order they were born.

057, that was Jasmine's number.

"Jasmine Galeana."

"Jasmine Ramos."

The nurse had barely finished speaking when two completely different voices rang out in the ward. It was then that Emma noticed Aiden standing not far away, her smile frozen, her eyes dull.

For a moment, no one said a word, and the atmosphere in the ward was unusually quiet. The nurse clearly felt the awkwardness and gave an awkward laugh, "There's no rush, by hospital rules, mothers who've had a natural birth need to stay in the hospital for four days before being discharged. You guys still have time to think about the baby's name. No need to tell me right away. Just let me know before you're discharged. Here are the forms. Fill them out and hand them to me when you're done."

Emma took the forms from the nurse and thanked her, "Thanks, I'll fill them out and hand them to you as soon as I can."

The nurse nodded and exited the ward.

Knowing that the two had something to discuss, Ethan made an excuse and left with Ines. Silas and Eda also said they were going to buy some stuff for the hospital stay and left as well.

Only Aiden and Emma were left in the ward. Emma glanced at her daughter, who had fallen asleep again, and asked Aiden, "Would you like to hold Jasmine?"

A hint of joy flashed across Aiden's face, and he answered immediately, "I'd love to."

He held Jasmine in his arms. This was his first time holding such a small and soft baby, and he was as stiff as Ethan.

Emma couldn't help but say, "Aiden, relax a bit, it's okay."

"Her eyebrows look a bit like mine, not as thick and dark." Aiden said.

Emma laughed, "All newborns look like this." Aiden's smile froze, and for a moment, both of them fell silent. Aiden held Jasmine and paced around the ward. It took him a while to get used to it. Afraid of disturbing her sleep, Aiden sat down next to Emma, studying her. She didn't gain weight like other pregnant women do. She was just as slim as she had been before her pregnancy.

"Emma, I'm sorry for making you go through this tough time. I wasn't there for you." Aiden said.

Emma shook her head, a bitter taste in her mouth, "I wasn't joking with you before. I've been thinking it over, and we really shouldn't continue this mistake of a marriage. Have you thought about the divorce?"

Aiden's face soured. He had thought that given some time, Emma would give up the idea of divorce. But to his surprise, even after all this time, she was still determined to divorce him.

Aiden looked up at Emma, seemingly doubting her intentions.

"Trust me, I have no reason to lie about this. There may not be love between us, but I don't hate you. We can end this marriage peacefully." She was really tired and didn't want to carry the burden of this loveless marriage any longer.

Aiden was a bit surprised. He thought she wanted to divorce him because she hated him.

"Don't you hate me?" Aiden asked.

Emma shook her head, "I don't hate you at all."

If she had to say she hated anyone, it would be herself. She had been too stubborn in the past, only determined to get him. But she had ignored the fact that if something wasn't meant for her, even if she got it, she wouldn't be able to keep it. In the end, all she would get was nothing.

When she really thought about it, Aiden didn't do anything wrong. He just didn't love her. If she were the one he loved, he might have the guts to stand up to his parents.

Why should he put in so much effort for someone he didn't love?

Hearing Emma say this, Aiden didn't feel relieved. Instead, he felt a bit heavy-hearted. He handed the baby in his arms to Emma, looked intensely into her eyes and said, "I get it. I'll sign the divorce papers as soon as possible. I hope you and our daughter have a good life."
