Ines' words instantly lit up Ethan's eyes. His face was filled with surprise and emotion, and some complex feelings that Ines couldn't quite understand.
Ines wasn't planning on going back to sleep. She leaned on Ethan's arm, whispering, "Men's minds are really hard to fathom. I have no clue what you guys are thinking about." Just as she was murmuring to herself, her vision was suddenly obscured by a shadow. By the time she reacted, Ethan had leaned down to kiss her lips. A hint of a smile tugged at Ines' lips as she willingly returned his passionate kiss. It wasn't until Ethan felt that he was about to lose control that they reluctantly stopped.
Seeing Ethan like this, Ines' face reddened slightly. She gently pushed him away, "Let's get going. It's getting dark earlier these days. If we delay any longer, it will be pitch black."
Ethan playfully pinched Ines' nose, saying earnestly, "Thank you for forgiving me and agreeing to come home with me."
Ines blinked, then realized what he meant, pointing at her own nose, "Did you think I came here today because I was angry?"
Ethan chuckled awkwardly, not saying anything, but his expression said everything.
"Don't get it twisted. I was not that upset. I just wanted to tease you, see when you'd come to find me. Plus, Emma was not in a good mood that day, and Jasmine was also startled, so I came to check on them. Never once did I think about staying here tonight." As she spoke, Ines playfully punched Ethan in the chest, a smile on her face.
Ines really didn't know what to make of him. How could he have such thoughts? And if he wanted to take her away while she was asleep, it would've been too easy. But he didn't. He even carried her upstairs, clearly not planning on doing anything against her wishes while she was asleep. He showed her utmost respect.
This man, sometimes he was a rascal, but other times he was incredibly principled, a walking paradox. But she really liked his way of doing things. Her heart was filled with warmth, and this warmth spread throughout her body.
Hearing Ines' words, Ethan was also taken aback. He stuttered, "I thought..."
Ines put her hand over his mouth, a brilliant smile on her face, "Don't say anything. Mr. Meyer, take me home."
"Okay." Ethan said.
As they walked downstairs hand in hand, Silas and Eda were watching TV on the couch, Jasmine nestled in Eda's arms. Seeing them come down, Silas found it strange and asked, "Aren't you guys staying here tonight?"
Ines raised an eyebrow. Her actions had led everyone to misunderstand. They all thought she had come back because she was upset.
"Silas, I just came to check on Emma and Jasmine." Ines said.
"I see. I thought you were planning on staying here for a while." Eda said.
"No such thing. By the way, where's Emma?" Ines asked.
Eda smiled and pointed outside, "She seemed to have received a call and hurried out. Maybe the content wasn't suitable for us to hear."
"We're leaving now. Eda, take good care of Emma. Make sure she drinks some soup to promote lactation. Breast milk is always better than formula for a baby as young as Jasmine." Ines said worriedly.
Ethan pinched her face, "Mrs. Meyer, you're such a mischief."
When they got back to the car, Ines couldn't help saying, "Ethan, do you know? Gentry asked me about Emma a long time ago. I thought they had already been in contact. I can't believe he waited so long to reach out. He's so shy."
Ethan found it amusing. Ines, who was clearly shy herself, was making fun of others.
Ines tilted her body to look at Ethan. The light in the car was dim, and she could only make out his facial features. His face was very gentle, she couldn't tear her eyes away from him. She stared at him, saying earnestly, "Men can't afford to be shy. No wonder I heard he's in his thirties and still hasn't found a wife. Ah, thinking about how brave Mr. Meyer was! You had the courage to ask me to marry you after only meeting me once, and I just foolishly agreed."
Hearing Ines' words, Ethan let out a low chuckle, "Ines, are you complimenting me or taking a dig at me?"
Ines said, "You can interpret it as you wish, but I don't think Emma can keep going on alone like this. If Gentry truly has feelings for her and doesn't mind her having a child, then she might give dating him a shot. Gentry might rub people the wrong way sometimes, but he's a pretty straightforward guy overall, and seems like someone she can rely on. Silas told me my dad thought highly of him when he was still around."
"Well, that's up to Emma to decide. All our chatter doesn't really matter. The bare minimum for two people to be together is that they should like each other." Ethan said.
"So, Mr. Meyer, you decided you liked me the first time you met me?" Ines asked.
Ethan shook his head. He knew women love to rehash the same questions, "Why don't you ask yourself, what were your feelings towards me back then?" Ines shifted her gaze out the window, seemingly in deep thought. After a moment, she said with a laugh, "There's something I never told you. I felt like I'd been struck by lightning at that time."
