Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 398

Silvia left the barbecue joint and headed straight for a villa. The moment the door opened, the guy on the other side was all smiles. "Dr. Caldwell, you're finally here. Maria has been a bit down recently. She's been knocked out cold by sleeping pills but seems to be having nightmares. She's tossing and turning. Mr. Krueger asked me to call you over."

Silvia just nodded, cool as a cucumber. "Show me to her." The servant led the way to the bedroom. Silvia took a look at the woman writhing in her sleep and furrowed her brows slightly. Then she sat down by the bed, softly saying, "Maria, I know my therapy has been working, you've been lucid from time to time, and your mind is slowly coming back. You don't have to keep up the act in front of me. I might not be the good guy here, but I won't rat you out to your husband."

Upon hearing this, Maria, lying in bed, stopped writhing. Her eyelashes fluttered a bit, but her eyes remained closed.

"If you don't want to listen to me, I can always tell Mr. Krueger to find a new doctor in my place."

Just then, Maria slowly opened her eyes and looked at Silvia. "Dr. Caldwell, you know?"

Silvia simply nodded. "You're my patient, and I've been dealing with you for a while now. If I can't even tell whether you're recovering or not, then I'm a total washout."

"You really won't tell my husband?" Maria Krueger asked again, uncertain.

"Chill out, I won't shoot myself in the foot. This is between you and your hubby, and it was Mr. Krueger who hired me. I won't blabber when I shouldn't. That's just professional etiquette."

"Then you also won't tell my brother, I don't want him to know I'm recovering." There was a hint of pleading in Maria's eyes.

"Gotcha."

Silvia's quick response made Maria a little suspicious. "Dr. Caldwell, why are you willing to help me keep this a secret?"

"I'm fresh out of college, and my hospital salary isn't exactly big bucks. The pay here is good, and I'm not willing to give up this sweet gig just like that," Silvia explained.

"Don't worry, as long as you can help me keep this under wraps until I'm fully recovered, I'll do my best to meet your needs. I might have been mentally unstable for many years, but I still hold a lot of stock options. I have a lot of money. I won't let you down."

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Maria was still unsure. If Silvia was doing this for the money, wouldn't she sell her out if someone offered her more? For a moment, she stared at Silvia, her tone becoming somewhat stern. "No, I need you to swear, swear that you won't betray me."

Silvia sneered inwardly but agreed to Maria's demand, "If I betray you, I'll never find someone who truly loves me."

Hearing this, Maria finally breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good, but..."

Before she could finish, the servant's voice came from outside. "Maria, Mr. Russel is here to see you. His car is in the garage, and he'll be up in five minutes."
