Ines and Phoebe didn’t expect to run into Silvia at a newly opened BBQ joint. She was sitting near the entrance, looking like she had just settled in, with enough food for two despite being alone.
“What a coincidence, bumping into her here,” Phoebe muttered under her breath, as she wasn’t a fan of Silvia, to put it mildly.
Ines tugged at Phoebe, whispering, “Let's bounce, don’t mind her.”
“Maybe we should find another spot?” Phoebe suggested, trying to keep Ines from getting annoyed.
“No need. You said the BBQ here is killer, didn’t you? Let's just eat here.” Ines cut Phoebe off. They were bound to cross paths in A City sooner or later. She didn’t want to seem like she was dodging Silvia, which would make her look guilty. She wasn’t the one in the wrong here, Silvia was.
She had made up her mind to fight for her marriage instead of running away.
“Alright, but you’re right about the BBQ. It’s pretty dope.” Seeing Ines, Silvia couldn’t help but look her way. She looked like she hadn’t changed much after giving birth. Her figure had bounced back nicely; the changes that most women experienced after childbirth were nowhere to be seen on her. She was wearing a simple sweater with blue jeans, an outfit that accentuated her figure.
Many said that a woman who'd had a child and took care of herself could be even more attractive. This was definitely the case with Ines.
The food in Silvia’s mouth suddenly lost its taste. She had heard that Ines had given birth to twins. How lucky could a person get? She couldn’t understand why life dealt different hands to different people. What she yearned for, Ines obtained easily and held onto firmly. This was so unfair.
“Izzy, what kind of flavor should we get?” Phoebe asked.
Ines thought for a moment, then said to Phoebe, “Let's order separately. Can you make me a non-spicy one? I'm breastfeeding right now and can't have spicy food. Also, go easy on the salt, or it might affect the babies.”
“Sure thing. For the babies’ health, let's do as you say. We can’t skimp on this.” They ordered separately. Seeing Ines dig in, Phoebe couldn’t help but laugh. “Have you been starving at home this month? You’re eating like you haven’t seen food in days. We’re in public. You’re the chairwoman of the Galeana Group, Ethan’s wife, and you’ve appeared on TV a few times. Try to keep it classy.”
“You’ve got a bit of a rep now, so you should keep an eye on your image. Aren't you worried that someone would snap a picture of you eating like this and put it on the internet? You might stir up public discussion again.”
Ines didn’t care. She knew Phoebe was referring to Silvia possibly targeting her, but she believed Silvia wouldn’t do something so petty.
"You'll understand when you go through what I did. It was a tough time. Rita also came over. She and Erica teamed up to keep a close eye on me. I wasn’t allowed to do anything. If possible, I think they'd have me lie in bed and just be a milk-producing machine.
"That sounds a bit over the top." Phoebe laughed.
"Let's not talk about that. I've made it through that tough time. Today, Erica told me to enjoy life. You have to keep me company. I'll go home later."
"No problem, I'm all yours today."
Silvia was actually not eating much, she was just listening to Ines and Phoebe's conversation. The more she listened, the worse she felt. They were so successful in love and had a strong career, while she was all alone, without a single close friend. She felt like her life was a complete failure.
Silvia couldn’t listen anymore. She paid and left.
Phoebe happened to be sitting facing the entrance. Seeing Silvia leave, she tapped the table and said to Ines, "Silvia took off."
