Even if the names weren't written on the report, Ines could tell which picture was of her and Emma, and which was of her and Silvia.
"Izzy, I just want to find some peace," Ethan's voice was laced with fatigue, and there were too many troubling questions that weighed on him, forcing him to overthink.
Ines shook her head, not in the mood to listen to anything Ethan had to say. Her mind felt like a tangled mess that she couldn't begin to unravel.
Her feelings for Leila were incredibly complicated. At first, Ines felt a bit jealous of her, because Ethan used to love her so much that he didn't date anyone else for years. To have a man's deep and profound longing like that was indeed something to be envious of.
But when Ines learned about everything Leila did for Ethan, she made peace with it. There was no denying that Leila was a good woman. She gave her life for Ethan. But every time her name came up and she was dragged into their lives, Ines slowly found it harder and harder to let go and keep a cool head.
Even in death, Leila was still a barrier between them.
Every time Ines felt smug about being able to replace her, reality would slap her hard in the face, telling her that it was all just a fantasy. As long as she was with Ethan, Leila would follow her around like a shadow. She was really tired and felt drained. She didn't know what this life was. She didn't know if the past was worth it, and was uncertain about whether to continue into the future.
Ethan came forward and held Ines tightly, but he noticed that her body was very cold; obviously she had been up for a long time. He gently rubbed her body, trying to warm her up, but found that no matter how much he rubbed, her body wouldn't heat up.
"Izzy, don't do this. I'm worried about you."
Ines didn't respond. No matter what Ethan did or said, her gazes were still vacant, staring into the distance.
Ethan knew he really hurt her this time, "Izzy, I know you won't listen to anything I say now, but I still want to tell you that I don't know what I said last night, only that I had a nightmare. In my dream, Leila made me choose between her and you. I chose you, but she jumped off a cliff with you. Izzy, you are the only one in my heart. You have completely replaced Leila."
Ines suddenly pushed Ethan away and covered her ears. She knew this man was a smooth talker and she would eventually be persuaded by him, but she didn't want to listen now. She just wanted to be as far away from these complex matters as possible. She walked to the wardrobe, pulled out a suitcase, and quickly started packing her clothes.
Ethan's expression kept changing, "Izzy, what are you doing?"
"I'm leaving you. I don't want to see you again." Ines didn't stop packing as she firmly said these words.
Their argument wasn't loud, so only Camela who lived on the same floor heard them. Camela had never seen the couple like this; she knew things were serious and quickly informed Erica and Trenton.
When Erica and Trenton came upstairs, they just heard Ines' words and saw Ethan's face turn pale. Stunned by the sudden shock, he stepped back.
