Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 445

Silvia’s fists were clenched tight. Of course she knew it. Although she didn’t work at the same hospital where Ines was admitted, she was well aware of the ubiquitous rumors about the CEO of the Meyer Group standing vigil by his comatose wife’s bedside. This man was indeed a perfect gentleman, but it was a pity that she never held a place in his eyes.

“The accident was not my doing, so don’t blame it on me.” Silvia laughed lightly. “Russel’s actions are solely on you. Don’t think you can get away with it easily. If he hadn’t taken action, you would’ve found a way to deal with me yourself. Either way, you can’t dissociate yourself from this.” Ines’ face hardened at the mention of this. The thought of almost losing Ethan because of these machinations made it impossible for her to engage civilly with Silvia.

“Your affairs have nothing to do with me,” Silvia retorted with a smile.

“So, you’re as stubborn as a mule, huh?”

Silvia scowled, disliking the tone Ines was taking. There was something different about Ines since she’d woken up from her coma, but Silvia couldn’t put her finger on what exactly changed. “Don’t speak to me in such a roundabout and accusing manner. It irks me.”

“You irk me!” Ines shot back with a roll of her eyes. She had no desire to engage with this heartless lunatic if possible. “For a person who could watch her sister die right in front of her without batting an eye, I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for you, let alone the inclination to speak nicely.” Ines thought Silvia’s actions were no better than those of beasts. Even some animals understand kinship. Her brutal treatment of her own kin was beyond the pale.

This was something Silvia could never forgive herself for. She had long regretted her actions. It was the momentary lapse in judgment that led to the tragic outcome. This was her darkest secret, the one she’d hoped would remain hidden, but now that it had been laid bare. All she felt was a crushing pain in her chest. Her tears were flowing freely down her cheeks.

Silvia, who was usually composed, was now a wreck of emotions, stuttering over her words. “I didn’t mean to... it wasn’t intentional... I was just a moment too late... Just a moment... I was supposed to take her to the hospital... I was supposed to...”

Ines smirked faintly. She’d always thought Silvia was impenetrable, but it seemed she’d overestimated her. The death of Leila was Silvia’s Achilles’ heel. She’d exploit this weakness, seizing this golden opportunity to give Silvia a taste of her own medicine. “Silvia, you should save these words and use them when you meet your sister in the afterlife. It’s pointless telling me this now. If you hadn’t harbored ill intentions, you wouldn’t be in this mess. You could have a loving sister and brother-in-law, perhaps even a cute niece, or even could find a man who truly loves you, but you destroyed your own bright future. You have no one to blame but yourself.” She paused for a moment before continuing, “I’m sure your sister died with regrets. She must’ve wondered why she didn’t just strangle you when you were young, why she took care of you even after your parents passed away. Don’t you have nightmares? Of her strangling you, of her wanting to take you down to hell with her?”

Hearing this, Silvia’s mind was in turmoil. The echoes of a woman’s voice was ringing in her ears, like a demonic chant, which left her breathless. With a heart-wrenching cry, Silvia exclaimed, “No, my sister would never do that to me. She was the person who loved me the most in this world. She would surely forgive me.”

As Silvia lost control, Ines continued, “She might forgive you for everything else, but she would never forgive you for separating her and Ethan. Your sister loved Ethan dearly, but you drove them apart. In her eyes, that is an unforgivable sin.”

Yes, her sister loved Ethan. She must hate her so much. Silvia’s lips twitched lightly, and her body was shaking uncontrollably. Soon her lips turned a pale, transparent color.

The line was silent for a while, causing Ines to furrow her brows. She was wondering what was happening on Silvia’s end. She didn’t hang up. Instead, she put the call on speaker and set her phone aside.
