Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 447

“If you’re not busy, you should head out. I’ll be on duty in half an hour,” Silvia urged.

Russel heaved a quiet sigh, with a stern expression taking over his face. He stared at Silvia, saying, “I don’t want to hear what you said to Ines today again. You better not entertain such thoughts. You won’t get any evidence that could harm me, and don’t even think about standing against your own father. If I fall, it won’t do you any good. At least with me around, no one can bully you. You’ll always have someone to discuss your problems with. I’m your father. You may not want to admit it, but that’s an undeniable fact.”

A glint appeared in Silvia’s eyes, but she said nothing.

Russel walked out and slammed the door behind him. Matthew noticed Russel’s grim expression and cautiously asked, “Did something happen with Miss Silvia?”

Considering they were in a hospital, and people were moving around constantly, Russel swallowed his anger and lowered his voice. “What’s wrong with your people? They can’t even do their job right. They’ve been watching her all this time but haven’t noticed anything suspicious.”

From Silvia’s words, she had been in contact with Ethan before, but his men hadn’t noticed a thing. It was absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully, he overheard her phone call today, otherwise, he would have been caught off guard.

“What did Miss Silvia do?”

“Keep an eye on her. This girl is collecting evidence against me. She’s a tough one. She’s been holding a grudge against me because of Leila. We can’t risk her turning against us.” Russel shivered at the thought. He had been so busy recently that he had neglected Silvia. He didn’t communicate with her often either. Suddenly, he realized that he didn’t know his daughter at all.

Hearing this, Matthew’s expression darkened. He had always thought Silvia was cunning, despite her young age, and she wasn’t easy to deal with. Even with so many people watching her, she managed to make moves under their noses.

“I understand, sir, but there’s something I’m not sure if I should mention.”

“Just say it. No need to beat around the bush.”

“I find Miss Silvia’s attitude towards you strange. On the surface, you seem harsh to her, but deep down, you care for her. Ever since Leila’s death, you’ve been taking good care of her. Over time, she should have realized this. It doesn’t make sense for her to hate you so much. She even has ideas to bring you down. I’m wondering if there’s another reason behind this.” Matthew voiced his doubts.

Russel thought of something, but quickly dismissed it as impossible. The incident from the past was so secretive. Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell were dead, so no one else could possibly know about it. “I think she must know about how I threatened Leila back then. The guiltier she feels, the more she hates me,” Russel concluded.

“Perhaps,” Matthew agreed.

...

Although Ines had directly refused Silvia, she was still somewhat unsettled. Silvia wouldn’t say such things if she didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation.

“Izzy, what’s wrong? Why are you so distracted today? You even threw the good lettuce leaves in the trash,” Grandpa Phillip inquired curiously.

Ines smiled, “Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’m just thinking about something.”

“The most important thing for you now is to take good care of yourself. Don’t think too much about work or anything else, or Ethan will start worrying again.”

“I know, Grandpa.”

Ethan came back home early that day. Unless he had urgent business to attend to, he would usually come home early to have dinner with Ines.

After dinner, Ines pulled Ethan upstairs. Watching their retreating figures, Erica gently stroked Ivy’s face. “Your mom only has eyes for your dad now. You guys have been completely ignored.”
