Ines was constantly keeping tabs on the online chatter. Perhaps due to Internet influencers, the online feedback was way better than she expected. As she read through the various comments attacking Silvia, she couldn’t help but think about her own experiences, which stirred up a mixed bag of emotions.
Initially, she had planned to simply file a complaint without making a big fuss about it. If she had any other choice, she would never choose this path. However, when Ethan was implicated, it was enough to fuel her resolve. Retreating would only embolden them; it was time to retaliate.
Phoebe was having a cup of coffee when she noticed Ines’ gloominess. She couldn’t help but get up to comfort her. “Izzy, don’t worry too much. Now these things are already troublesome enough for them. We’ll deal with whatever they throw at us next.”
Ines looked up at Phoebe. “Phoebe, it’s not fair for you to be stuck here. You just came back from a long vacation. It wouldn’t look good if you took another leave so soon. Your boss might take issue with that. You should go back to work. Lucas and I can handle this.”
Phoebe reflected on Ines’ words and agreed. “Alright then, take care of yourself. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me. If you can’t sleep, I can keep you company.”
“Don’t worry about me, Phoebe. And I will tell you if I need anything. Just be safe, okay?”
“That’s not something you need to worry about, Izzy. Nobody knows I wrote that post. I completely changed my writing style, and the post was sent from the Meyer Group. No one’s going to come after me.”
Ines nodded. She had already taken all of this into consideration. That was why she had Phoebe change her writing style and didn’t let the news leak from Phoebe’s magazine. Instead, she chose a random online forum to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Despite her meticulous planning, Ines couldn’t help but warn, “Even though we’ve taken every precaution, they might still connect the dots to you. I’ll ask Noel to drop you off and pick you up from work.”
“Come on, Izzy. You’re being too nagging. Noel’s been on my side lately. He’d do it even if you didn’t ask.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Phoebe rolled her eyes at Ines. As Ines appeared to be in a stable mood, she decided to return to work.
Just then, Lucas messaged them, “Ma’am, the committee has accepted the report you submitted last night. I think it’s time for them to get in touch with Russel.”
Upon hearing this, a smile crept onto Ines’ face. This was the result she was hoping for. “Finally, we’ve given them something to worry about.”
“Oh, and ma’am, Lionel said we could visit Mr. Meyer at the police station. We can go with him whenever we want to.”
Ines’ eyes lit up as she got up enthusiastically. “Great! Let’s go see Ethan right now and find out what he’s planning.”
Lucas understood Ines’ urgency and immediately started making arrangements.
Ines thought she would break down in tears upon seeing Ethan, but it was quite the opposite. Seeing his wrinkled clothes, the stubble on his chin, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Ethan was puzzled by Ines’ laughter. “What’s so funny about the way I look?”
“You look like a mess, and you’re in a police station.” As long as he was safe, that was all that mattered. He seemed to be doing fine, aside from his unkempt appearance.
