Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 469

“Rest assured. I can keep a cool head even in such a major issue. I’ll just stir up some minor troubles to distract him and ensure that he doesn’t get the upper hand. I’ve got a good measure of things, so I won’t hinder your overall plan.”

“That’s good.”

There was no time constraint on their conversation. They chatted non-stop for over an hour before they reluctantly parted ways.

Having obtained information about the family, Ines decided to personally visit them with Lucas in the afternoon, bringing some fruits and wellness supplements. Lucas led the way, knocking on the door. After a while, a yawning man came to the door, clad only in a simple tank top. He seemed lethargic, like someone who had been up all night. He gave them an irritated look. “Who are you guys looking for? You are disturbing my sleep in broad daylight?”

Ines glanced at the time. It was already four in the afternoon. Even if he was napping, it was high time he woke up.

It wasn’t trouble they feared, but it was the troublesome thugs they feared. It seemed like they had come across a real nuisance.

“Sorry for the inconvenience. We’re looking for someone named Trevor.”

The man ran his fingers through his hair, looking them up and down. “That’d be me. What do you want?”

Lucas began explaining, “We are from the Meyer Group. We wanted to talk to you about the safety issues related to the Meyer Group’s real estate a few years ago...”

Before Lucas could finish, the man slammed the door shut.

Lucas nearly got hit by the door but managed to step back in time. He knocked on the door again. “Sir, we came here with good intentions today. Let’s talk about what happened back then.”

The man inside cracked the door open slightly and hollered, “There’s nothing to talk about. I’ve already given my statement to the police. If you need any information, ask them. Don’t come here disturbing me again. I won’t be dealing with you.”

After saying that, he closed the door again. No matter how many times Lucas knocked, there was no response from inside.

“Madam, this is the situation. All the family members have the same attitude. As soon as they hear we’re from the Meyer Group, they wouldn’t even give us a chance to speak. Getting through to them won’t be easy.”

Ines frowned. “What does this man do for a living?”

“Trevor doesn’t have a steady job. The deceased was his father. He’s 32 and unmarried. At night, he sometimes drives around selling barbecue food, but he’s very inconsistent. Once he has some money, he goes to the casino. He’s now in deep debt, so his creditors often come knocking. His family and friends are scared to lend him money anymore, and they avoid him whenever they see him.”

Ines nodded. “What about the other two families?”

“The situation isn’t great there either. One family is a mother single-handedly raising a daughter in college and looking after two elderly people. The other family is slightly better off. The woman runs her own business, but she’s recently run into some financial difficulties.”

Hearing this, Ines frowned. The situation was much more complicated than she had anticipated. “I see. It’s no wonder that they could be manipulated by Russel.”

“Madam, this is a bit complicated. We’re not sure how Russel is operating on his end. Changing their testimonies will take more than a few days.”
