Ines was at a loss for words. During those years in B City, she was pretty sure that Aaron had never been fooling around. They often worked late into the night together. His apartment was not far from their company. He was a creature of habit, heading straight home after work.
As for those women who had set their sights on him, he wouldn’t even give them a second glance. He was quite detached.
As for his past, she couldn’t be sure. After all, she had met Aaron when he was already 27 years old.
Ines laughed lightly. “I’m not sure about that. Aaron was quite disciplined in B City.”
Ashley, like a little mouse with a piece of cheese, giggled with delight. After her laughter settled, she affirmed, “Then I must have guessed correctly.”
“Ashley, how did you figure it out?”
Ashley snuggled into Ines’ arms, whispering about the day’s events. Ines couldn’t help but laugh. “Did Aaron really do that?”
“Would I lie to you? But I was pretty embarrassed at the time. My nightgown was too thin, and I wasn’t wearing anything underneath. Later, he insisted I change into another set of clothes. I asked him to sleep with me, and his ears turned red. But after I teased him a bit, he agreed. He stayed as far away as possible. It was only when I moved closer did he hold me.”
What was more, he had only ever been interested in two women, Leila and Ines. Unfortunately for him, both women were interested in Ethan. Ashley thought she should take a chance to toast her older brother. He had cleared all her love rivals without her even lifting a finger.
“Haha, Aaron truly is as innocent as you described.” Ines found it hard to imagine what it would be like if Ashley and Aaron were together.
Ashley was bold and proactive, while Aaron was principled and straight-laced. “Exactly, I suggested to him that we should have a shotgun wedding. That would surely make our families accept us. He was so mad, as if this was some big deal. In this day and age, there are plenty of couples like this. He needs to learn to be more flexible.”
Ines shook her head, convinced that Ashley was gonna be a headache for Aaron.
However, a man in love can’t control himself. This was her experience as an older woman. “Ashley, don’t get too cocky. There will come a time when you will cry.”
“Ah, I don’t want to think about that now. With Aaron’s stubborn nature, none of this can happen before we are married. I still have over half a year before I graduate.”
Ines laughed, teasing, “You sound like you can’t wait.”
Ashley, who usually appeared nonchalant, was still a young girl inexperienced anyway. Ines’ words made her blush. “Ines, don’t say that in front of my brother, or I’ll be in trouble.”
“I don’t have anyone to share this with right now. Your brother is still in jail.” The smile on Ines’ face faded, and her voice was laced with a touch of sadness.
“Ines, cheer up. This battle is bound to happen sooner or later. It’s not going to end easily after all these years of delay. We need to be patient and confident. Your actions today were brilliant. Seeing Silvia fall apart made my day.”
Just as they were talking about her, Silvia called Ines. Looking at the number on the screen, Ines sighed and answered the call.
