Gentry forced a smile, knowing that Emma had made up her mind. He was out of the picture, feeling a bitter taste in his heart. “Emma, can I hug you?”
Emma blinked before standing up with boldness, opening her arms to Gentry. He stepped forward and gently embraced her. Their hug lasted a long time. Gentry finally let go, saying seriously, “Emma, if you change your mind, remember to let me know.”
Emma nodded, teasing, “Gentry, you’re not getting any younger. It’s the right time for you to find a woman to settle down.”
Gentry frowned slightly. “Emma, you’re avoiding my question.”
“Alright, Gentry, if I change my mind, I’ll let you know immediately.”
After Gentry left, Emma let out a long sigh of relief. This situation had been bothering her, but now it was resolved.
What Emma didn’t know was that Aiden, who was behind her, was boiling with rage. Seeing them hugging, he almost lost control of his emotions. Fortunately, they parted. Emma didn’t agree to be with him. So, he still had a chance. Never before had he been so desperate to make things right, to win back the one he cared for.
Emma had no pressing matters, so she ordered another cup of coffee, slowly savoring the rare leisure time. She felt a gaze on her since the conversation with Gentry, but when she looked around, there was no suspicious figure. Just as she was about to ignore it, she heard a waiter’s voice, “Sir, can I take your order?”
Aiden had been focused on Emma, so he was startled by the waiter’s voice. He knocked over a small vase on the table, causing a loud noise.
Emma naturally saw Aiden now. She hadn’t noticed him before because his table was hidden behind a large pot of flowers. She knew then that her feeling was not a mere illusion; he had been eavesdropping.
Annoyed, Emma quickly paid the bill and left. Aiden glared at the waiter, left a hundred-dollar bill on the table, and hurried after Emma. “Emma, let me explain. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your conversation.”
Emma wasn’t listening. She walked quickly, not believing it was a coincidence.
Seeing her high-heeled shoes, Aiden warned, “Emma, don’t walk so fast. Watch your step.”
Just as he finished speaking, Emma let out a muffled groan. She fell to the ground, clutching her sprained ankle.
“Emma, are you okay?” Aiden rushed forward to help her up.
Emma shrugged off his hand, removed her high heels, and tried to stand up. She then walked barefoot ahead.
Aiden’s expression changed. He picked up her shoes and followed. “Emma, let me drive you home. It’s really hot on the ground. You’ll burn your feet.”
