However, all of her brothers believed that Elaine had been the first to escape the accident, jumping out of the car the moment it crashed. They scorned her, accusing her of being a selfish, evil sister. They were only relieved that Bianca wasn’t in the car, or they might never have forgiven themselves.
But Bianca knew the truth, She had seen Elaine rush back into the wrecked car, not to escape, but to save a little toy bear.
The toy, a simple gift from her brothers, meant the world to Elaine. Bianca was terrified, heart pounding, as her brothers quietly took her home.
Today, it was both Elaine’s and Bianca’s birthday. Their parents and brothers had planned a grand celebration for them.
Tracy had even prepared two beautiful dresses–one for each of them. But in truth, these dresses were chosen based solely on Bianca’s tastes. As for Elaine, Tracy didn’t even consider her preferences. They had fought just a few days ago, and Tracy was still angry. She wouldn’t be happy until Elaine apologized.
When Bianca arrived, Tracy showered her with affection, doting on her beloved adopted daughter. But when the guests were almost seated, Tracy suddenly realized: “Where’s Elaine? Why isn’t she here yet?”
Elaine’s brothers, not wanting to worry Tracy, had told her only that Elaine had taken a different car, and for some reason, hadn’t arrived yet. Tracy, believing Elaine was purposely avoiding her, grew angrier. “It’s Bianca’s birthday today. Couldn’t she just stay out of trouble for one day?”
She completely forgot that today was also Elaine’s birthday.
Only when the servant reminded her did Tracy remember to give one of the dresses to Elaine. Yet, it was a dress that clearly wasn’t something Elaine would like.
Even the size was chosen based on Bianca’s measurements. The servant could only shake her head, disapproving of Tracy’s favoritism.
“Bianca, let’s go try on our dresses together,” Tracy said, happy as ever. The others breathed a sigh of relief as she left. They feared that the mention of the accident might upset her.
“Jepson,” one of the brothers said with a grin, “You’re definitely going to be the best–dressed man at this party.”
“Calvin, yours isn’t bad either,” another added.
The brothers, all dressed in sharp suits, looked as impeccable as ever, radiating the charm and elegance of the Yeats family.
They smiled, joked, and shared brotherly warmth—yet in all this happiness, Elaine was completely forgotten. The family had long since become accustomed to the tension with Elaine, but this? This was beyond awkward. They had become so used to her absence, they no longer noticed.
Then came the call. The news shattered everything.
Tucker’s face went white. “What did you say?” he asked, his voice trembling. “You’re telling me that there was a girl in the car at the explosion, and that girl… was our sister, Elaine? She… she’s confirmed dead?”
Shawn’s expression mirrored Tucker’s horror. The girl he thought had escaped, the one he’d believed had jumped out of the car in time, was dead.
The word “death” hung in the air like a curse. Elaine was only twenty years
old.
It felt as though their hearts were being torn apart. They almost collapsed from the weight of it.

Chapter 281
After putting down the phone, Tucker didn’t say a single word.
They were still in a daze, unable to process what had just happened.

Tucker thought, ‘How could Elaine be dead? She is so young, so full of life just yesterday. She has been lively, vibrant, and today–of all days–is her birthday. Yet, the person on the other end of the phone had delivered the brutal, unfathomable news: Elaine had died, all because she had gone back to retrieve the little bear they had once given her, trying to save them. And just like that, a young life was extinguished.
Tucker’s vision blurred. The sunlight seemed too harsh, too bright, stabbing at his eyes, blinding him.
Their brother called to confirm the news. It was as devastating as before. Elaine was gone, dead on her birthday.
When Tracy heard the news, she went wild, running straight to the scene of the accident,
“No, it’s impossible! Elaine can’t be dead! You’re lying to me! You’re all lying!” she screamed.
Cheryl, watching Tracy unravel before her eyes, felt nothing but hatred. The charred body of Elaine appeared before Tracy’s eyes, an image so horrible it burned itself into her memory.
Suddenly, the world spun out of control for Tracy. She let out a heart–wrenching scream and collapsed right there at the scene, her body failing her as the sheer weight of losing her daughter overwhelmed her.
“Elaine…”
She was so young. She never got to experience the warmth and love of this family the way she deserved.
But it was too late. She had slipped quietly away from this world, without so much as a goodbye, without offering them any chance for remorse.
All that was left was Tracy’s endless regret.
Kingsley received the news and rushed to Elaine’s side. There, beside her cold body, he saw the emerald bracelet he had given her.
It had been with her since childhood, a token of his love and a silent wish that it would bring her safety and happiness throughout her life. But now, all he had was her lifeless form before him.
The following year, Kingsley made sure that everyone involved in Elaine’s death paid the price. Bianca, pregnant and trying to escape the city, met her own tragic end in a car accident.
The whole of Boynton was shaken by the news.
Kingsley, holding onto the emerald bracelet Elaine had left behind, lit a thousand candles, his prayers burning with deep
reverence.
“Elaine, I love you.”
