"Evangeline Manor."
Suzy froze. "What did you just say?"
"I tracked the figure all the way back to Evangeline Manor. They met with the Empress."
Her mind went blank.
The mastermind she’d been hunting for so long… was Evangeline?
She suspected her sister-in-law once before, but she'd dismissed the thought, believing she'd been hypnotized into thinking something so absurd.
Yet now…
"Are you absolutely sure?" Her voice was rough, almost unrecognizable.
"Positive," the guard confirmed.
Suzy felt like the ground had disappeared beneath her feet.
Why did the people she trusted always turn out to be the ones to betray her?
First Charlotte. Then Claude. And now… Evangeline.
Her mind raced, desperate for answers.
Why would Evangeline do this? Could it really be what she'd feared before?
Was it jealousy? Resentment because of how much Simon cared for her?
No. That made no sense.
Evangeline risked her life to protect her.
She'd lost her child, and her ability to ever have children again, because of that choice. How could someone capable of such sacrifice be the same person behind this chaos?
Unless, it was all a setup.
Yes, that had to be it.
Someone wanted her to believe Evangeline was the enemy and tear their family apart from the inside.
She took a shaky breath and steadied herself. “They want me to turn against her. I won’t fall for it.”
By the time she returned to Evangeline Manor, she had composed herself completely.
She stepped into Evangeline’s room with a bright, carefree smile.
"Evangeline, it’s done. Serena has been dealt with. No more hidden schemes and threats in the dark. Everything's finally over."
Hearing Suzy’s words, Evangeline broke down in tears. "From now on, I’m all alone in this world."
Suzy immediately pulled her into a hug.
"Evangeline, what are you saying? How could you ever be alone? You have my brother, you have me, and you have Dad. We're your family, and we'll always be here with you."
