Yvonne furrowed her brows and said sternly, "Have you lost your mind? What do you mean by self-protection? Can you match a man in strength? Do you have superhuman martial arts skills? Be realistic. You're not a superhero. You're a woman, and a pregnant one at that. Blaming yourself won't solve anything while the real criminals are still out there. Pressuring yourself with guilt won't fix the problem!"
Nina blamed herself for being too weak, while so many people wanted her dead. She felt powerless and guilty for putting others at risk.
Yvonne's words made sense. No matter how upset she was, the real criminals were still free.
Nina hugged Yvonne, leaning on her shoulder. "I'm scared. I feel like this isn't just a simple kidnapping. I can't fight them!"
She had felt this fear in the trunk. The experience had put immense physical and mental pressure on her.
Yvonne's expression softened, and she gently comforted Nina. "Don't be afraid. I'll be by your side, and we'll face and solve this together."
Nina tried to calm her fear. No matter how fragile she felt, she would eventually have to confront it. Besides, the red-haired woman seemed to have a deeper connection with her.
Nina vaguely had such thoughts. On the bridge, she had spoken impulsively, not because she remembered anything specific.
In the confined, dark, and suffocating space of the trunk, she felt an overwhelming fear. When she saw Scarlett, she spoke based on instinct. But Scarlett's expression and words indicated that she had indeed experienced something similar.
These were questions that puzzled Nina and left her without answers. It was as if she really had been locked in a small dark room. No wonder she was so afraid.
Nina sat outside waiting for hours, through dusk and into the late night, with hardly anyone else around.
The surgery lasted eight hours. The longer it took, the more serious it seemed.
Nina was exhausted, physically and mentally, but she did not dare sleep, fearing she would wake to bad news.
Finally, the operating room light went off.
Nina immediately stood up from her chair as the doors opened and Nash was wheeled out, unconscious.
The doctors were covered in sweat, indicating how challenging the surgery had been.
Nina anxiously asked, "Doctor, how is he?"
"The surgery was successful, but the patient is still in critical condition. Whether he wakes up or not, we'll know by tomorrow," the doctor replied.
