As her superior, Sawyer was sipping tea, indifferent to Scarlett's fate. It was only when she collapsed that he put down his teacup and fixed his sharp gaze on her. "Are you trying to let that woman go on purpose?"
Scarlett lay on the ground, her eyes open as she struggled to crawl towards him. "I didn't..."
Sawyer said, "You were clearly about to throw her off, but you hesitated. I have to suspect that you're having second thoughts."
Scarlett's face was pale and she looked disheveled. She grabbed the bottom of his pants with all her strength. "She grabbed my hand. I tried to throw her, but I couldn't. Please forgive me this time. I promise I won't fail again!"
Without mercy, Sawyer kicked her away.
Scarlett groaned in pain, the taste of blood heavy in her mouth, making her nauseous. But what she wanted now was to survive. "In the end, the plan worked out. Your target was the man, and he's been shot. He's at death's door. I've done my part."
At this, Sawyer walked over to her and grabbed her chin harshly. "You all have worthless lives. If I hadn't raised you, you wouldn't have survived this long."
Scarlett endured the pain, her fists clenched tightly, looking at him with helpless eyes. "I know. You're my foster father."
They were all raised by Sawyer. But they felt nothing for him beyond fear and awe. They were mere tools for making money.
They understood this well.
If anything went wrong, they would be the ones to be sacrificed.
Even so, they could not resist.
Since the day their hands were stained with blood, they had been living worse than street rats, hiding in dark corners just to survive.
The chance to live in the light was lost forever.
Sawyer narrowed his eyes and coldly asked, "Where is Wilfred?"
He could not help but suspect their loyalty, as he had not seen them for a while.
"You still remember to come back?" Sawyer said viciously. "What have you been doing these days? Scarlett nearly died for you, while you were out having fun!"
Wilfred calmly approached, standing beside Sawyer with a smile. "This is where I came from. I had to return."
Sawyer sat down and said, "You didn't complete your task!"
Wilfred replied nonchalantly, "Isn't my task to dissect human bodies?"
Sawyer was still unsatisfied, his eyes boring into Wilfred. "But I think your mind has wandered. Are you planning to betray me?"
Scarlett, trembling with fear, crawled towards them.
Wilfred touched Sawyer's face with his cold, slender fingers, still smiling. "What do you think?"
Scarlett's face turned even paler, her hands clenching tightly.
