“She is challenging me just because she got a bit of money now.” Connie said to her daughter. 

“I think the right words to use is that you are jealous of me.” Hailey defended. 

“Oh please! There is nothing to be jealous about you. You are obviously living a fake life. And don’t let this temporary fame get into your head, because I am going to reveal all of your secrets soon.” Vanessa glared at her. 

“Life must be so painful for you all, isn’t it? To see the person you all try to ruin, soar.” 

“Oh please, no one ruined you.” 

“Did you tell your mother how you almost killed me? Did you tell Dad or even Cole?” 

“I am proud of her and you definitely deserved what she did to you. Your disappearance was the best thing that could ever happen to any of us.” 

“The apple doesn’t fall too far from its tree, right? The only reason I am in you all’s shitty lives is because of Grandpa. The company is not going to fail under my watch. And don’t think I don’t know about the monies your all have been stealing. There’s proof. One more disrespect against me or the company and I will make sure you all spend the rest of your lives in jail.” 

“You twart!!!” Vanessa was about to attack Hailey when Connie held her Still. 

“Oh, poor kid!” Hailey mocked. “Today is not going to be like the other day. Touch me and I promise you that you are going to be behind bars for a long time. Sadly, your parents are poor now and they won’t be able to save your ass.” 

Glaring at Hailey with so much hate, Vanessa stormed out of her sight. 

“This is not over! You are going to regret ever being rude to us!” Connie glared at Hailey before going after her daughter. 

“Are….are. Did they do anything to disturb you?” Hailey heard that familiar voice say to her. She looked in the opposite direction and saw Eric Summers, her father. 

Amused that her father was engaging in a personal conversation with her, in four years, she spoke, “I think this is

Eric sighed deeply in shame. 

“I am not trying to humiliate you but this is what you have always done. You never gave me the opportunity to defend myself at all costs. Your wife and your daughter always come first. What has changed now?” 

“Hailey, I’m deeply sorry.” 

“No, I don’t want your apology. I just want to know what changed. I have never been your favorite. Or do I need to remind you that you disowned me and left without a home or any money?” 

“You had Cole!” 

“Spare me that bullshit, Dad! I never loved Cole. I didn’t want him. I married him so that I could please you and also save the company. But guess what? You still didn’t give a shit about me.” 

“I have moved on from the thoughts of having a father. You should move on too. You were never bothered if I was alive or not so you don’t have to start acting like you care. I would appreciate it if we only have work–related conversations from now on.” Hailey picked up her purse from the table beside her and walked out on her father, ignoring the remorseful look on his face. She went ahead to say her goodbye to the few important people present at the event, after which she exited the venue. 

Hailey was walking down the hallway and was about to take her phone from her purse, to call her driver to bring the car in front of the event hall when she felt someone grab her by her arm and pull her into an enclosed space. 

Before she opened her mouth to raise the alarm, she was gently but firmly pushed against the wall, and before she knew it, the person crashed his lips against hers. 

Even before she saw his face, Hailey could tell who that was from the way he grabbed her. The lights were deemed in the room but she could still recognise him with his features even when she couldn’t see his face clearly. And even though she could count how many times they ever kissed, that didn’t stop her from recognizing the way he tasted. The only difference was that she could also taste some alcohol in addition to the familiar sweet taste. 

Coming back to her senses before she got too carried away, Hailey pushed him off her and was about to hit him but he was quick in holding her hands to prevent that, not letting her escape from his hold also. “Why have you been avoiding me all night?” The pain in his voice didn’t go unnoticed.

“You are drunk, let go of me.” She tried to wriggle herself out of his hold. 

“I’m not letting you go until you talk to me.” 

“I wasn’t avoiding you.”

“You are my wife, Hailey! And I’ve got our marriage certificate to prove that.” 

“Don’t you dare say that to my face! You wanted a divorce and I agreed. You keep talking about how you love my sister better than me and I freed you to go meet her.“” 

“Of course, I don’t mean those words that came out of my mouth. I was out of my mind when I said them.” 

“Oh, please, I am not going to believe your lies. I don’t know what has come over you that you have become. suddenly interested in me. For three years, we lived in the same house and never for once did you look at me twice.” 

“Is that the reason you went to carry another man’s child?” 

“What?” Hailey stared in shock. Her heart was beating twice faster. 

“Stop pretending you don’t know what I’m talking about. I know you have two children. You knew you were married to me and you still went ahead to sleep with another man and have children for him. Not just one kid, Hailey. Two!!! Two fucking children!!!!” 

Hailes stared in shock not knowing what to say. She had no idea if she should be angry that Cole thought se lowly of her that he accused her of sleeping around or if She should be happy that he had no idea that he was the father of her Babies. After all, she didn’t want him anywhere near them.”
