Chapter 98
Hours Later.
Fortunately, Debbie came back on time and Hailey was able to convince Cole to go to the hospital with her. They got there in no time and met Jessica sitting on a chair, outside the ward. There was also a police officer standing outside beside Jessica.
Jessica rose to her feet upon seeing Cole and Hailey. She hugged Hailey, then hugged Cole too. They
were both in casual clothes.
“Hope it wasn’t difficult coming in here?” Jess asked, concerned.
“No. Just a few stares.” Cole answered.
“How’s she? Any info?” Hailes asked, referring to Vanessa.
“She just opened her eyes not quite long. The Doctor is attending to her. She lost the baby.”
Hailey’s hand instantly went to her belly. Cole saw that. He brought his hand to her shoulder, and gave it a light squeeze.
“That’s sad to hear. But what was the cause? And that of the bruise too?” Cole asked.
“She was beaten, hence the bruise. Concerning the baby, the doctor said they would carry out a test to see if the miscarriage was induced by stress, a fall, or if she took some substance.”
“This whole situation is getting sadder than we imagined.” Hailey said.
Cole shook his head. “Eyes on the goal, baby. Sadly, she lost the baby but Vanessa would pay for all she cost us.”
“I know. I am not thinking about her. Just the child that had to go through so much torture. Plus, what would Garry think?”
“You’re right. But that is if Garry is the father.”
The doctor stepped out, along with a nurse, interrupting the trio.
“How’s she, Doc?” Jessica asked.
“Can we see her?” Hailey asked.
“Sure! She is out of danger but we still need to keep an eye on her. The test results will be ready soon but she should be better with time. My condolences about the baby.” The Doctor said, and took his

leave, with the nurse behind him.
“I can wait here while you both go talk to her,” Jess said.
Hailey nodded and led the way in, with Cole walking behind her. Hailey connected her hand to the door handle and pushed the door open. They came face to face with Vanessa who was lying on the bed in the middle of the room. It was a medium–sized room and the bed was raised in such a way that it was almost as if Vanessa was in a sitting position. Her face was filled with bruises and a drip was passed to her left hand.
“What do you want?” Vanessa asked, looking away, the moment the duo stepped in.
Cole rolled his eyes, shutting the door behind him.
They saw her wiping tears off the corner of her eyes. Apparently, Vanessa had been crying, that was why she refused to look at Cole and Hailey.
Hailey went to her bedside and stood in the direction that she turned her face to. “My condolences about the baby.”
“Stop acting like you care. I’m sure you are happy.” Vanessa’s voice came out low, sniffling.
Cole approached the duo. “Even though you’ve acted like a bitch towards us, this is us showing genuine sympathy. You are the one we have issues with and not the innocent baby. I don’t mean to shame you but I am glad you can feel what Hailey felt when you hit her and kicked her years ago, knowing she was pregnant.”
Vanessa started sobbing.
Hailey gave Cole a cautionary look.
“Trust me, the thoughts in my mind do not equate to the words Phave just said. Vanessa would do evil to innocent people without thinking twice. I am glad she is having a taste of her own medicine.” Cole glared at Vanessa as she sobbed.
“I honestly do not feel any ounce of pity for you. If Hailey and I were mentally weak, we would have committed suicide long ago because of your actions. You keep doing evil and see where it got you? You are miserable, you lost a child and you are probably the most unhappy person in the world right now. Just get well soon because you are still going to serve jail time”
“Cole?” Hailey cautioned.
“No babes, I can’t touch her because she has enough bruises on her body. I love you so much but no one is going to stop me from speaking my mind. Not even you.”
