"I heard everything just now."

"What do you mean?"

I looked at Luca, not understanding what he was implying.

He smiled and said, "You just called me your boyfriend."

"So, from now on, we're officially a couple."

He wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

My face immediately flushed, and I quickly pushed him away.

"I. I was just joking."

"I'm not joking, Becca. I really like you. It's rare to meet someone who loves painting as much as I do, and with whom I click so wel."

His eyes were filled with sincerity.

I felt a knot in my heart.

I wasn't ready to start a new relationship yet.

"I. I have something to do. I need to go home."

After I got home, I avoided contacting Luca.

I didn't know how to handle his confession.

So, in the following days, I stayed home watching TV shows instead of going out to paint.

Ryan didn't show up for a while.

When he did, it was right after I had just finished shopping at the supermarket.

He was standing at a distance when suddenly a man with a knife charged at me.
