Arianne fell momentarily silent before she finally said, “Fine. Bring them here. It’s safer here. I don’t care if Aery lives or dies. I’m doing this because of Helen. After all, she gave birth to me.”
Mark saw Arianne relax a little and said, “I’ll ask Henry to pick them up. You rest easy and go to bed.”
How could Arianne possibly rest easy? She tugged Mark’s ear and said, “Promise me, don’t spare Aery an extra glance. Every time you look at her, I feel disgusted! Also, if Aery makes me uncomfortable, I’ll have her thrown out!”
This was Mark’s first time having his ear pulled. He swatted her hand away. “Do what you want. I’m just giving you a suggestion, you make the decision. There’s nothing going on between Aery and me. I dated her to irritate you. I’ve never even touched her. Why should you feel sick? I was wrong, okay? Alright, that’s enough. Go to bed.”
Arianne did not respond. No matter how hard she tried, she could not sleep. When Henry brought them to the house, she walked downstairs, dressed in her nightgown. She stared at Aery and said, “You and Helen will share a room. You will not act as you please here. If you upset me in any way at all, I’ll have you thrown out.”
Aery lowered her head. “I won’t do anything to upset you, sis. It’s just that… I’m used to sleeping alone. Can I… can I have my own room?”
“No way.” Arianne refused her without any hesitation. “You’re welcome to return to the hotel if you’re unhappy. I’ll have someone drive you there.” After all, Helen and Aery shared a room, at least, Helen would be able to keep an eye on Aery. Helen would not allow Aery to misbehave.
