Soon after, Mark approached her from behind. “These are all the properties that the Tremonts’ own. See if there’s any you like.”
When Arianne turned around, she saw a huge stack of property ownership certificates in Mark’s hands. The thickness nearly made her jaw drop. “Wh… What? I don’t want…”
Mark frowned. “Don’t women want a sense of security? Brian’s words reminded me of this…”
Arianne gulped before she shifted her eyes away from the deeds. “Are you serious? Why do I feel like you’ve been acting strangely for the past few days? I’m your enemy. Isn’t it strange for you to give your enemies properties? Moreover, I don’t lack anything. I have meals and clothes in the Tremont Estate, and you give me money to spend. I’m content with it. Put them away. I don’t want any properties.”
Mark’s eyes dimmed a little as he tossed the stack of deeds on a couch next to them. “I don’t see you as an enemy. You’re my wife. If you don’t like these properties, we’ll pick ones you like. I’ll buy them for you.”
Arianne finally realized he was serious so she said, “Mark... I really don’t want those things. I’m not like the others… And, we’re not like the others either. It’s fine, really.”
Mark looked at her skeptically. “Is it really fine? No more divorce?”
Arianne pursed her lips. “You won’t agree to it even if I want to anyway. I’m starving. I’m heading downstairs for lunch. Come down quickly.”
Mark could not figure out her thoughts. He had watched her grow up so he thought he knew her inside and out. However, as she grew older, things were no longer under his control.
She was a woman too. However, she did not want the sense of security that other women wanted. There could only be one reason for this; she did not love him. That was why she did not need any security from him.
Upon realizing this, Mark thought the deeds were an eyesore and swept them to the floor. He leaned against the couch silently. He was angry. It felt as though what he had done earlier was just a joke.
Since Mark did not come down yet, Arianne did not dare to start the meal first. In the end, she went upstairs again to check on him. She saw him leaning against the couch with a dark expression on his face. Her heart skipped a beat upon seeing this. “What’s the matter? It’s time for lunch…”
Mark did not even spare her a glance as he went to change in the walk-in closet before leaving.
