Mark nodded. “Mm.”

Brian paused then said, “But… You have an important meeting this morning, it starts at 10:30AM. Perhaps I should take Mrs. Tremont instead?”

“That’s fine too,” Arianne chimed in considerately. “Since you have a meeting, Brian can accompany me. You should go to work.”

“No need,” Mark replied without hesitation. “The meeting can be delayed. I do not want to miss a single one of your prenatal check-ups. This is my responsibility.” His face displayed a gravity and solemnity that destroyed Arianne’s final point of defense against him. Perhaps his kindness towards her was never faked at all.
