Joshua listened silently. His eyes darkened and yet he didn’t refute Valentin.

Because of his indulgence, everyone, including Valentin, his friend, Rachel Edward, his

mother, Payton,his assistant, and even the servants from the old mansion, didn’t treat Anika

properly.

Valentin received a call and left hurriedly.

After he left,Joshua subconsciously picked up his phone.

Anika didn’t call him.

He called her,and again, he heard the cold,robotic female voice.

“Sorry,the number you dialed cannot be reached at the moment,please dial later…”

He threw his phone away in frustration.

Then he got up,went to the French windows,and lit a cigarette.

Anika’s words from early morning still haunted him. She said she regretted it.

He felt a strange bitterness in his throat. He coughed heavily a few times and suddenly

heard a woman’s voice behind him.

“Joshua,smoke less.Smoking is bad for you.‘

Joshua’s heart skipped a beat. Subconsciously, he thought it was Anika who was back.

Yet when he turned around,he saw Violet who dressed as if she were a dutiful wife and

mother.

Light crept through his deep eyes. He asked indifferently,“Why are you here?”

Violet looked at him extremely gently.

“Your mom sent me here.She knows that Anika has already found another man. She hopes

you won’t think too much about it.

Chapter 18

Joshua’s mom was Rachel.

Everything happened four years ago.

Back then,Rachel and Valentin were in a car together,and they were victimized by a hostile

company.

Rachel lost a lot of blood,and the hospital was low on O–type blood. Fortunately,Anika was

with type O blood.

After Anika got Valentin settled,she got a transfusion.

She fainted after the blood transfusion as she lost her strength.

At that time,because the Carey family was Violet’s sponsor,she buttered Anika up as much

as she could.

When Violet learned that Anika was in the hospital,Violet went to the hospital at once to

Anika figured that she was a cowardly person who chose to take sleeping pills to end her

Anika looked at Clare,whose hair grew grey overnight and looked even older now,feeling sadder.She felt embarrassed to face Clare.

Clare choked and squeezed Anika’s hand.She said,“Anika,listen to me.Get better soon and live your life properly from now on.OK?”

Anika couldn’t promise her anything.

The doctor was in the hallway of the hospital with a man.

“Sir,after the operation,we gave her a checkup and found that she has been half a month pregnant.”
