Chapter 0128
Kala POV
I’ve been at the medical centre all morning and it was now coming up to lunch time, not that I’ll stop for lunch. We had too much to do.
I had been checking on each patient to redress wounds and just be a hand for them to hold, I didn’t want anyone to feel alone.
Alora arrives wanting to relieve me and let me rest but there is still just too much to do.
I give her a walk through, show her the wards that had the less severe patients and where to go for more dressings.
She looks completely overwhelmed and I have a moment in judgement when I don’t think she is up for this, but then she turns to me and assures me that she’s got this, that she will be fine and would mind–link me if she needs help.
I have to let her try, it would be good for her to be out of her comfort zone…to not be so sheltered. I tell myself as I leave the ward.
I enter a corrective surgery as soon as I bump into the surgeon in the corridor, he calls out to me to scrub in which brings me a flicker of hope in such dire surroundings, he must of thought I was doing a good job. By the time I finish the surgery and find Alora again, she is talking to a female patient as she redresses her head wound, I decide to leave her, I wasn’t her keeper and she could decide for herself when she needed to call it a day, when she needed to rest. Although I do ask one of the doctors to keep an eye her and encourage her to leave not too long after me.

As I walk into the alpha house’s kitchen, I know it’s the plated up meal I should be reaching for but I don’t, I go into the fridge and grab the cold bottle of wine that has been calling out to me all day.
I needed this. I deserved this.
I enter the sitting room, placing my feet up and almost for a second, a tiny second, forgetting we had visitors and thinking I would be left alone.
How wrong was I.
His clearing of his throat comes after the scent of dark chocolate and burnt oranges swirls around the room. My eyes open to find him leaning against the door frame, his grey ash eyes holding a level of
concern in them.
“I don’t think that’s a meal…”
“I don’t know, it seems to be hitting the spot.” I take a sip letting the flavour rest on my taste buds, sinking into the sofa.
“You’re avoiding me…” He states taking a step into the sitting room, walking towards the non–lit fireplace, seemingly inspecting the small trinklets that adorn the mantelpiece.
“I’m not…”
“No lies now Kala!” He smirks at me through the mirror above the mantel piece, his handsomeness

catching my breath. I had tried my best not to look at him for too long since he showed up, I have been avoiding him. But what did he really expect.
A sigh escapes me, my peaceful moment no more as I stand up to join him by the fireplace. I place the wine glass on the mantelpiece before looking up in his eyes. I forgot how tall he was, my neck pulls slightly as I have to look up the little bit higher.
“What are you doing here Hector?” I sigh out.
“I was at the Shadow Rock pack when they launched the attack on these lands…”
“No, I mean…what are you doing here Hector?” I repeat, trying to get to the real reason.
He tilts his head, his eyes looking down into mine.
“I needed to know…”
“You needed to know….what?”
“That you are okay, that you were safe…”
“By coming all this way? If you knew where I was you could have sent a letter, or an email….my email address hasn’t changed.” I scoff, I hear a door open somewhere and I turn from him trying to walk away from his cryptic words.
I feel tingles erupt on my skin as I look down at the cause, his hand now gripping at my elbow pulling me back around to face him.
