After going up one floor, Eleanor struggled and said, “Put me down. I’ll wear my shoes and walk by myself. I live on a higher floor.”

Eleanor thought for a moment and pointed to the top floor. “I live on the sixth floor. You won’t be able to carry me all the way up.”

“Third floor.”

“How do you know?” Eleanor asked in surprise.

“What do you think?” Elijah paused for a moment and looked at Eleanor with deep eyes.

“You investigated me!”

Elijah narrowed his eyes, wondering what she was thinking about all day.

After a moment, Elijah stopped at Eleanor’s dorm room door.

Eleanor reluctantly opened the door and went inside. As soon as she entered, she changed into a pair of non–slip sneakers.

On the dorm floor, she had already packed two suitcases. Besides clothes for all seasons and shoes, there were also five boxes of books.

Art books were expensive. Even when they were worn out, she couldn’t bear to throw them away.

She pulled the suitcase closer. “This one is easier to carry. I can handle the rest myself.”

Elijah ignored her and glanced at the door.

Avery and the driver quickly stepped inside, each grabbing half of the luggage and getting ready to leave. Just then. Avery noticed a dress box on the table. His eyes swept over the name, instantly recognizing what it was. He reached out to pick it up along with the other things.

Eleanor quickly pressed it down. “Not this one. I’ll take care of it myself.”

Elijah nodded, and Avery left with the driver, carrying the rest of the luggage.

On his way out, he even thoughtfully closed the door behind him.

Elijah stepped closer to the dress box. Instinctively, Eleanor moved in front of it, shielding it.

She spoke firmly. “Jaxen was just helping me out of relative concern. Please, don’t make this difficult.”

She didn’t want Jaxen to get into trouble over a dress, so she quickly explained.

His fingers traced the surface of the box, gliding over its embossed details before moving toward Eleanor’s side. Step by step, he closed the distance between them.

The soft tapping of his fingertips against the cardboard echoed in the empty dorm room, a sound so light yet unsettling.

Eleanor clenched her fists and looked up. He was right in front of her, staring down with a faint smirk.

The dormitory was empty, cold and quiet. Elijah’s eyes were deep and dark, as if they were soaked in ink. When Elijah leaned in, his breath carried a slight chill, making Eleanor shiver.

She leaned against the table and tried her best to remain calm. “Both.”

After saying that, Eleanor held his breath.

Coldness seeped out of Elijah’s eyes as he chuckled. ‘Is that what he told you? And you just believed it?” Eleanor stared at him with resistance and said solemnly. “Why wouldn’t I believe him?”

Jaxen was the only one who once saw her pain and offered to take her away.

Pain shot through her lips. She had never seen Elijah this angry before. His usually calm eyes burned with a red haze, his entire presence dark and oppressive.

After some time, he pulled away, his voice cold and commanding. “Don’t mention him to me again.”

Eleanor was shocked by this unfamiliar side of Elijah. Her breath quickened as she tried to push him away. However, he grabbed her wrist and rubbed a different–colored skin on her wrist.
