When I got up in the evening, Evie was already home. When she saw me coming out of the room, she widened her eyes in shock.
"Why did you come back so early today? Don't you need to work overtime today?"
"I took leave today, so I didn't go to work."
I stretched lazily, yawned, and answered Evie.
"You asked for leave? Really?"
Looking at me in shock, she felt a little incredulous.
I responded faintly. Seeing my unhappy expression, Evie looked at me with a puzzled expression.
"Where did you go last night? You didn't come home."
"Working overtime."
Hearing Evie's words, the expression on my face froze, and I explained guiltily.
"Working overtime? Why are you lying to me? What company would ask their employees to work the entire night? Tell me the truth, did you..."
Evie trailed off and raised her eyebrows. Although she didn't finish her sentence, her meaning was very obvious.
Seeing that Evie had guessed what I had done last night, my face instantly turned red. My expression became a little unnatural, and I began to feel guilty when I looked at Evie.
"What are you talking about? I was really working overtime last night. I'm hungry, let's go have dinner."
I said those words guiltily, and then no longer paid attention to Evie. I quickly picked up the cutlery and began to eat.
Evie could be really smart sometimes. If Brandon was going to keep contacting me in the future, I wouldn't be able to keep our relationship from her. I wondered if she would think less of me when she discovered my deal with Brandon.
"Hollie, I keep feeling that you've been hiding something from me recently. Are you having any difficulties lately?"
Halfway through the meal, Evie suddenly raised her head to look into my eyes and asked seriously.
Hearing what she said, my eyes flashed and I looked at her guiltily.
"Why are you asking so suddenly?"
"You've been in a bad mood recently. You're working late every night. You're not acting normally. By right, a big company like Grizzlimited wouldn't need you to work so late."
Evie put down her chopsticks and looked at me, her voice filled with inquiry.
Indeed, I had been working overtime for more than a week. It was rare to see someone working overtime for more than a week in other companies, so it was normal for Evie to suspect it.
But I didn't want to tell anyone that I had been taken advantage of by Rudy. With Evie's bad temper, if she knew that I was being pestered by my boss, she would probably turn up at my office with a kitchen knife.
"You're overthinking this. The company is a little busy recently, so we have been working overtime."
I said this guiltily and lowered my head again to eat my food.
"Is that true?"
