Chloe had never been a fan of the whole elite tradition of taking on goddaughters and godsons; in fact, she found it a bit off-putting. But today, she was surprised to find herself feeling unusually grateful. It was like she’d hit the jackpot. Becoming the goddaughter of her idol felt like a dream come true.
And then there was Neil. Despite his stern demeanor that commanded respect and a bit of fear from everyone, Chloe felt a strange sense of closeness to him. Especially today, when he stood up for her. At that moment, she was overwhelmed with the urge to cry.
Her relationship with Jacob had always been more about business than family, his reputation always taking precedence. Yet today, even though it was their first meeting, Neil had defended her when she was being slandered and dragged through the mud. Chloe felt a wave of emotion she couldn’t quite describe.
As she gazed at the dappled shadows of trees outside, something clicked in her mind. "By the way, what's Isaac's username?" she asked.
Connor chuckled softly, “Eat, Sleep, Dream of Jojo.”
Meanwhile, a couple of hours earlier, Lisa had been carted off by the police. Leah and Jacob, following in their car, had been trailing the police vehicle closely. Jacob and Leah were in the back, the driver up front.
Jacob hadn't anticipated the night’s chaos. Lisa’s lies and deceit had left the Shaw family fed up. He found himself tangled with the law. Chloe had barely managed to forge a connection with the Shaw family, yet Neil had only acknowledged Chloe, publicly severing ties with the Meadows family.
The more Jacob dwelled on it, the more it felt like his chest was in a vice. He finally succumbed, slumping against the car window. Leah had told the driver to stay on the police car's tail, but then she heard a loud thud. It was Jacob's head hitting the window. He collapsed onto the seat, his face drained of color, lips turning blue, and a hand clutching his chest.
