Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover novel Chapter 927

Chloe knew Connor wouldn't just say something like this out of the blue. There had to be a reason, something he was grappling with. But no matter what, Chloe couldn't wrap her head around it. What could possibly make him say he didn’t want kids? Connor's eyes were a storm of struggle and pain. He knew it was tough to keep the truth under wraps, but he didn’t want Chloe to bear any extra heartache.

Connor dropped his gaze, dodging Chloe's eyes. "Honestly, I don't like kids at all. My childhood left me with scars, and I'm just not ready to be a dad. I don't want that responsibility." Chloe's hands shook with anger. What kind of excuse was that? "Connor, are you seriously not going to tell me what's really going on?"

Connor clutched his cup, silent. Chloe reached her breaking point. She flung a glass of water in his face. "Connor, no matter what, I can't forgive you for even entertaining that thought." She stood up and stormed out, her fury palpable.

Outside, she flagged down a cab. Connor was right behind her, jumping into his car to follow. He finally saw her cab turn into the driveway of the Shaw family estate and let out a sigh of relief before turning his car around. He had no idea how to face Chloe now. Maybe there was a better explanation, but he couldn't think of one. His mind was a whirlwind. Saying those words felt like he was being split in two, the pain as sharp as when Claire had pushed him into that freezing pool.

Connor drove back to No. 9 Mansion. Without Chloe, the place felt hauntingly empty. They both valued their privacy, so they hadn’t hired any help. Connor stayed in the car, unwilling to enter a home that felt so lifeless without her. He dug around in the car and found the hospital report from today, reading it over and over. He wished desperately that it was all just a bad dream.

But reality was unforgiving. Finally, he put the reports away and pulled out another sheet—the detailed ultrasound report from today. It had several pictures of their baby in Chloe's womb. The images were blurry, but you could still see the baby's outline. The tiny figure was curled up, peacefully floating in the amniotic fluid. In one shot, the baby was even nibbling on its little toes. The gynecologist had smiled at the pictures, saying, "This baby is super healthy and active, showing off during the check-up. Seems like a lively one."

Tears welled up in Connor's eyes as he gazed at the photos. This was his child, his and Chloe’s child. His fingers traced the ultrasound pictures repeatedly. He suddenly remembered when they were kidnapped, and Chloe first told him she was pregnant. His first reaction wasn’t happiness. He had wanted Chloe to terminate the pregnancy and start over because he thought his survival chances were slim. He wanted Chloe to live, so he considered letting go of the child. Little did he know, his words would come back to haunt him. And now, he faced this heart-wrenching choice again, but this time, it was different from dealing with an unformed embryo.
