Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover novel Chapter 995

Lucas was totally floored. In that instant, his whole body went stiff as a board, while his heart raced like it was trying to make a break for it. It was then he realized, all his happiness and the sweetness of reality had been shattered. Years of carefully hidden, desperately protected, and tirelessly pursued happiness began crumbling the moment he laid eyes on Connor. It didn’t make sense. Wasn't Connor supposed to be gone? Back in the States, even? What was he doing here, standing right in front of them? Lucas wished more than anything that this was just a bad dream. He stood there like a statue, unmoving, while the ice cream in his hand turned into a cold, hard rock, the chill biting deep into his bones.

Connor wasn't having an easy time either. He stood there, frozen, his face a mask of calm, but inside, it was like a storm was raging. Lucas! It was Lucas! On the way there, a thousand thoughts had raced through his mind. Could there really be any other explanation? Even though it seemed totally out there, something just told him this person was Chloe, the one he thought about day and night. That’s why he insisted on bringing her back. The moment the door opened and he saw Lucas, everything clicked. All his doubts, all his confusion, all those puzzling questions suddenly made sense. The truth was clear as day. Rose was Chloe. She hadn’t disappeared; she’d been hidden away by Lucas. And Chloe had lost her memory. After all those years of searching, he never suspected Lucas. Lucas, who seemed so out of the picture, so weak and cowardly. Never in a million years did he think Lucas was the one pulling the strings.

Connor’s fingers clenched tightly, and tension was written all over his face. His expression was a storm waiting to unleash its fury. Chloe quickly picked up on the tension. She looked at Lucas, confused, and asked, “Honey, do you know each other?” Their expressions were way too intense for two strangers meeting for the first time. Lucas couldn’t find his voice. He felt chilled to the bone, never so guilty or scared in his life. He couldn’t get a word out. But Connor did. He stepped forward, and Lucas instinctively backed away. But Connor stopped right in front of him, trying to keep his voice steady. With one arm, he held a sleeping Tim, and with the other, he extended a hand toward Lucas, as if for a handshake. His voice was cold, like ice. “Mr. Lucas, how have you been?” Connor spoke slowly, each word deliberate and calm as a still pond, yet carried the weight of words forced through gritted teeth. Each word sent a shiver down the spine. At this moment, Lucas was instinctively terrified, like a dog facing a lion. His steps were unsteady, almost as if he couldn’t stand straight. But he couldn’t show it in front of Chloe. Connor was so composed, Lucas couldn’t figure out his intentions at all.
