When did he catch wind of it all? Had he been onto them for a while, tailing them all the way to Disneyland? What exactly was he after? Things weren’t like they used to be. Chloe couldn’t remember a thing from before. Her memories were wiped clean, and to her, he was just some stranger from the crowd. This thought gave Lucas a small boost of confidence. He slowly extended his hand to Connor. "Mr. Connor, it’s been ages."
Their handshake was firm, almost too firm, like you could hear the bones protesting. Lucas’s face showed a flicker of discomfort, but he bit back the pain and kept his composure. Chloe, on the other hand, didn’t catch any of this. She was just curious about how these two knew each other.
"Honey, do you guys really know each other?" she asked, her voice light with curiosity.
That single word, "honey," made Connor's grip tighten just a bit more. Lucas was in such agony, he nearly yelped. But Connor finally let go, leaving Lucas’s hand red and trembling, while Connor seemed as cool as a cucumber. He turned to Chloe with a surprisingly warm smile. "Mr. Lucas and I go way back. We teamed up on a big project once. Paradise Resort, the biggest one in Country M, is our handiwork."
Paradise Resort was famous all over. Chloe had heard of it and even mentioned taking Aaron there during the summer break. But Lucas had shut down that idea real quick, saying they couldn’t afford such a pricey trip. He conveniently left out his role in building the place, though.
With shaky hands, Lucas shoved them into his pockets, feeling the threat Connor posed. Connor wasn’t here for a friendly chat, but he wasn’t making a scene either, which made Lucas uneasy. What was Connor really after?
