“What kind of terrible thing did I do? When she was all bruised up, wandering alone on the street, where were you? Why did you let her go through that kind of pain?”
“She was out cold for three whole days and nights. When she finally came to, she couldn’t remember a thing. Why wouldn't I see this as fate giving me another shot, a chance to have her back in my life? Or maybe it was you who led her right to me. I warned you, if you let her get hurt, I’d find a way to take her away.”
Connor replied icily, “Stop making noble excuses for your selfishness and deceit. If you really cared about her, you’d know that even without her memories, she wouldn’t want to be away from me and our kid. Tim was just a bit over a month old then; how could you let him lose his mom?”
Lucas took a long drag from his cigarette. “Your kid needs a mom, and mine doesn’t?”
“That doesn’t give you the right to play the thief!”
Lucas seemed like he was about to retort but held back, staying silent.
After a long pause, Lucas chuckled. “Anyway, what’s done is done. Yeah, I took her and hid her. What are you gonna do about it? Kill me?”
Lucas even smirked, a touch of triumph on his lips. “If you kill me now, Chloe will probably hate you.”
He finally looked up, his face a mess of bruises but defiance shining in his eyes.
