Chapter 135
Joseph gave a slight nod and said nothing more, his face clouded with disappointment and frustration. Julian slipped an arm around Tessa’s waist, leaned close to her ear, and said loud enough for others to hear, “Tessa, stay away from people like him next time. He’s not worth your time.”
Joseph clenched his fists.
He knew exactly who that jab was aimed at and finally snapped. “Julian, that’s enough. You’ve already punched me twice–what more do you want?”
Julian didn’t answer. He simply let out a cold scoff.
Not wanting to stir things up any further, Joseph turned and left.

He could feel the eyes on him, and the proud posture he usually carried was now slightly hunched.
He didn’t dare linger, afraid more attention would land on him
Slipping off to a corner, he tried to avoid the stares.
But he wasn’t planning to leave just yet.
“Damn you, Aurora. I won’t forget this. You really played your cards well.”
Staring at the glass in front of him, Joseph grabbed one and downed it in a single gulp.
The sharp burn of the liquor dulled the sting of humiliation just a little.
But even with the crowd chattering around him, he couldn’t shake the feeling that faint traces of mockery still lingered in the air.
Tonight’s banquet had turned him into a complete joke.
As the alcohol kicked in, his thoughts wandered to what a friend had mentioned earlier–trying to set him up.
Aurora had been at that previous event too.
But he’d misread the situation back then.
Still, with a background like hers, why hadn’t she just come out and said who she really was?
She’d kept it quiet on purpose.
That was why he’d been kept in the dark all this time.
The more he thought about it, the more bitter he felt.
Three years together, and he’d gotten nothing from her.

Now, thanks to her, he was the laughingstock of the entire circle.
Everything was Aurora’s fault.
He tossed back another drink, his head growing heavy and foggy.
But deep down, one thought kept Joseph going–he had to find Aurora and get to the bottom of all this.
He set down his glass, eyes sweeping across the crowd.
There she was–standing tall and radiant among the guests, a perfect smile playing on her lips, poised and elegant in every
movement.
She didn’t need to say a word to command attention.
The way she carried herself was effortlessly captivating.
And around her, a cluster of people–some familiar, others not–surrounded her like moths t

flame.
Why was it that he had become the butt of everyone’s jokes tonight, while that woman stood in the spotlight, adored and celebrated?
The more he thought about it, the more resentment burned inside him.
He rose slowly to his feet, eyes darkening with a ruthless edge.
In his gaze, her figure shimmered like a mark he couldn’t erase.
