She studied David’s serious expression, a sinking feeling stirring in her chest.

From the look on his face, he wasn’t making things up.

And really, why would he lie? This was a business partnership between them.

“But I trust your character, Miss Walton, so I decided to wait for your explanation.”

Aurora nodded. “I understand. Thank you for your trust, Mr. Warren.”

“But…” David’s face darkened as he recalled what happened that night.

“That night, someone sent something over to me. They said it was handwritten by you, but they didn’t open it. They told me I had

to read it myself.

“I didn’t think much of it and opened it. Turned out, it was a termination letter, along with some pretty nasty words about our

company.”

Aurora shot up in her seat. “Mr. Warren, I’ve never even heard about this!”

David nodded. “Honestly, when I first read it, I didn’t want to believe it either. But when I saw your signature at the bottom,

that’s when I was sure it came from you.”

Aurora’s face twisted, like she’d swallowed a fly. “Mr. Warren, do you still have that letter?”

“It’s gone. After I read it, I was furious and told my assistant to throw it out. That’s when I decided to call off all cooperation.”

Aurora felt a flicker of regret that the lead had been lost, but at least the misunderstanding was now cleared up.
