Lucas‘ voice dropped, cold and steady. “So where is Aurora? I didn’t see her leave when I got here. Think carefully, where did sh Bo?”

Megan muttered under her breath, “It’s because you’re here. Even if she were around, she wouldn’t show up.

Lucas‘ chest tightened at that. “Why doesn’t she want to see me?”

Megan avoided his eyes. “I don’t know. That’s between the two of you. You’ll have to ask her yourself.”

With that, she turned to leave.

This time, Lucas didn’t stop her.

He just let her go, but not without a parting warning. “Next time you drag your cousin–in–law to a place like this, you’d better be ready for the consequences.”

Megan flinched at his words, her back stiffening.

Aurora was the one who invited her!

Now she was getting scolded like it was all her fault.

The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt.

But for the sake of sisterhood, she swallowed it all.

If being the scapegoat meant protecting Aurora, she could live with that.

She gave a half–hearted nod, silently promising she wouldn’t bring Aurora to a place like this again.

Only then did Lucas look satisfied enough to let her leave.

Once she was gone, Desmond stepped forward. “Sir, what should we do? Do you want us to go look for Mrs. Carter?”

It had been a while already, and who knew where she’d gone by now. Time had slipped away, and Aurora could be anywhere.

Lucas shook his head. “Forget it. We’ll deal with it later.”

He knew her too well by now. Even if she left, she’d only go home. There was nowhere else she’d choose to be.

And, sure enough, he was right.

What was supposed to be a casual night out with Megan turned into something entirely different when that girl, after just a few drinks, decided to message Lucas.

Aurora had tried to stop her, of course, but Megan was far too fast.

By the time she realized what had happened, the message had already been sent, and instead of recalling it, Megan, in her

drunken state, hit delete by mistake.

That was the last straw.

Aurora got up without hesitation, deciding to remove herself from the mess altogether.

Megan had been stunned. She couldn’t believe Aurora would just ditch her like that.

But Aurora’s reasoning was sound..

Lucas was Megan’s cousin, and the two of them actually got along.

But if he showed up and saw Aurora at the bar, there was no way he’d be pleased.

That excuse was solid enough to convince Megan who was left blinking and half–believing Aurora’s words.

And so, she stayed behind to face Lucas alone.

Back at home, Aurora’s cheeks still held a warm flush. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she remembered Megan, probably still

stuck dealing with the consequences.
