Alex clenched his fists. "I swear, I want to toss you into a trash can."
Tyrone rolled his eyes. "Oh please, if you could stuff me in a toilet, that'd actually be impressive."
Alex really felt like shoving a sock in Tyrone's mouth. He took a deep breath and pleaded, "Please, I'm exhausted, I'm tired, and my head is killing me. Can I just have a moment of peace?"
Tyrone cocked his head, looking at him for a moment. "Fine... go to sleep then."
Alex sighed in relief and closed his eyes.
But no sooner had he closed them than he heard Tyrone again. "Hey, Alex, do you ever feel like you're the only sane one in your family?"
Alex shot up, rolling up his sleeves. "Tyrone, just shut it. Come on, let's have a little chat about life!"
...
Dawn broke, and Quintessa woke up before seven. The sky outside looked gloomy, hinting at rain.
The hospital beds were far from comfortable. Quintessa had gone to bed late and woke up early, her head throbbing and her eyelids swollen.
Despite falling asleep in the latter half of the night, Quintessa hardly rested well, haunted by dreams replaying her life's experiences over the past twenty years.
She realized her most vivid memories were from her childhood before the age of eight, even more so than the nerve-wracking three years she spent in Serenitia.
Sitting up and holding her forehead, Quintessa turned to find Tyrone and Alex weren't there, which was a surprise. "Those two really are something. They didn't come back after last night, did they?"
Just then, they walked in.
Quintessa was about to ask where they'd been when she noticed the bruises on their faces. Tyrone on his left cheek, Alex on his right, symmetrically placed as if measured.
