Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 205

Sylvia hurried forward, her hand outstretched yet hesitating to touch him, for fear of causing him more pain.

"Warren..."

Her voice cracked, and guilt washed over her. If it weren't for her, Warren wouldn't be in this condition.

Warren looked at her, gently pulling her to sit beside him on the bed, and with a tender gesture, wiped a tear from the corner of her eye.

The chill of the late autumn night seeped into the room. Sylvia, dressed lightly, had her hair tousled from her rush over, a few strands clinging to her damp eyelashes, making her reddened, moist eyes appear even more captivating.

His hand lingered on her cheek unwillingly, a comforting smile on his lips, "I'm really okay. Maybe I should get up and walk it off?"

Sylvia quickly grabbed his hand to stop him, admonishing, "Stop joking around. You're not a kid anymore."

He looked at Sylvia, a silent laugh in his eyes, though his gaze briefly darted past her.

Sensing something, Sylvia started to turn, but Warren seemed to lose his strength and leaned into her.

Instinctively, she caught him.

He wrapped his arms around her, patting her back gently, "Don't worry, I'm fine."

Sylvia thought it was just to comfort her and didn't push him away.

However, Warren's embrace tightened, his breath warm against her cheek, tinged with a hint of longing.

"Sylvia, when the accident happened, I was scared. Scared I'd never see you again. All I could do was call out your name, hoping to open my eyes and find you there. I missed you so much."

It was the first time since Sylvia had dodged Warren's hints that he'd expressed his feelings so openly.

She felt overwhelmed, her hands moving involuntarily towards him, wanting to push him away.

Yet, Warren held her closer, his voice a low plea, "Sylvia, don't push me away, okay?"

Her hand paused in mid-air, finally resting hesitantly on his back, "Okay."
