Evershining Stars, Everlasting Love novel Chapter 22

After I left the hospital, I felt a little bit hot in the autumn of Fu City as the temperature was still high during October. I went back to my apartment, took a shower and crawled into bed to rest because I had a late shift at night.

I didn't know how long I slept, I saw 4 p.m. on the screen when I picked up my phone, so I got up, washed up, cooked something to eat, and went to the office to change shifts with my colleague.

I've never had a night shift before, so I was ridiculed by my colleague when I felt so tired and kept yawning and wiped tears around 10:00.

Suddenly, my phone rang, I saw that it was Vince so I picked up the phone happily and pressed the answer button.

"Where are you?" Vince sounded a little serious.

"At home." I lied, I hadn't told him I had found a job, I changed shifts today because I had to meet his grandmother, it was only ten o'clock and I still needed to work three more hours before I could get off work. I lied because he’s away on a business trip, and I only took night shift today.

"Really?" He sounded a little irritated, questioning me.

"Really." I responded in a low voice, just then my colleague called me, "Nance, come here, the car arrived."

"Whose voice?" Suspicion grew in his voice.

I explained, "It’s TV, I'm watching it, I'll talk to you later." After that, I hung up his phone and then hurried out with the typed list.

Working at night was even more tedious than ordinary work at day, and by the time I walked out of the office after work, I felt a bit cold, the temperature difference in late autumn was too great at early-midnight. I shrank my shoulders and walked slowly.

About two o'clock in the morning, I got off my first night shift. No buses, no taxis, I walked alone. At this time my colleague Shi Chen rode a scooter past me and stopped, he asked, "Hey, beauty, do you want a ride?"

I looked at his tiny scooter and asked with worries, "Are you sure I won't fall apart when I sit on it?"

He laughed, "Come on, it's too dangerous for a girl to go home so late."

Shi Chen was right, it was the first time that I came home so late, and I should be grateful that the company treated me well to let me work night shift today.

After Shi Chen's repeated convincing, I got into his flimsy-looking scooter. He drove very slowly and did not talk to me on the way, and soon, he sent me to the entrance of my residential area.
