Chapter 447 Break Off the Engagement
Half an hour later, Bentley arrived at the Callis‘ house.
Quietly, he entered the villa.
Audrey was drinking coffee, eating snacks, and watching TV in the living room. When she saw Bentley coming over, she greeted him warmly.
“Mr. McGraw, you’re back. Do you want to sit here for a while before you go upstairs? Breenda went out early today. I think she will be back soon.”
Bentley was very appreciative of the hint.
After a brief okay, Bentley sat upright on the sofa. He did not reject the coffee when Audrey handed him.
Ten minutes later, the first to arrive was not Breenda, but the police.
The bodyguard of the Callis family led the police in, followed by Herbert, who was handcuffed.
When Audrey saw this, her face was full of suspicion. “What… What happened?”
One of the policemen nodded politely at Audrey, then walked to Bentley.
Then, as he had been instructed, the policeman said, “Mr. McGraw, Herbert had put a drug in the drink, and you were the victim who suffered most. He asked to apologize to you face to face and beg for your forgiveness, so we brought him here. Would you like to see him?”
Bentley took a sip of the coffee gracefully. His face was as cold as ever, and he did not say anything.
Audrey also looked on silently and did not dare to speak.
Herbert wailed and wanted to go forward. However, he was pulled over by the policemen and
couldn’t reach Bentley’s feet.
Standing behind the policemen, Herbert begged, “Mr. McGraw, I was wrong! Please listen to me, Mr. McGraw.”
“Let’s wait a little longer,” Bentley said calmly, putting down his cup.
Wait?
Herbert didn’t understand. Nevertheless, he decided that Bentley must be willing to accept his apology since Bentley had asked to wait, and waiting was nothing for him.
Everyone in the room waited in silence. Although no one knew what Bentley was up to, no one made a sound.
After a while, Audrey broke the silence because she felt that the atmosphere was too awkward. She asked the policemen to sit down and drink some coffee.
A few more minutes later, Breenda returned. Joans arrived home almost at the same time as her.
They entered the door together.
Seeing the situation in the living room, both Breenda and Joans were stunned.
Seeing that everyone was there, Bentley looked at the policemen and nodded.
One of the policemen stepped forward and unlocked Herbert.
Herbert immediately rushed towards Bentley and knelt by his feet.
The sound of his knees hitting the ground startled all the Callis family members who were in the room. They looked at each other.
Herbert apologized to Bentley. He looked respectful and humble.
“Mr. McGraw, I’m sorry. You mistakenly drank the drug. It is my responsibility. The Hess family will fully compensate you. If you are still angry, you can beat me up. You can beat me to death! I only beg you to let go of the Hess Group. Don’t make things difficult for the Hess Group.”
“You said that I mistakenly took the drug, so who did you want to drug?” Bentley asked, his expression unchanged.
Herbert shivered, and cold sweat slid down his back. He didn’t dare to speak.
Bentley added, “Be honest with me. If you dare to miss even half a word, you will have to bear the consequences.”
“I will explain. I will explain everything!”
Herbert was frightened and started to speak honestly.
“Breenda and I have been engaged for a long time. She has been very cold towards me. It is very difficult for me to ask her out once. We are not young anymore. If this goes on, the engagement will be delayed for two to three years. I can’t wait.
“Marriage can bring benefits to the Hess Group, so I came up with a crooked idea. I thought that she would be my wife anyway. If I could get her in advance, then she would agree to marry me soon. Also, I would not have to give her too many expensive gifts for our marriage. It was two birds with one stone.
“Thus, I paid the hotel waiter, asking him to put some drugs in the red wine when he brought it in. Unexpectedly, Mr. McGraw suddenly appeared. You know what happened after that…”
