Chapter 336 Still Got Exposed

Without looking back, I acknowledged the two of them and got into a taxi waiting for passengers by the roadside. I gave the address and headed straight for the Conner’s place.

The Conner’s place.

My mother was watching a drama in the living room. Hearing a noise, she glanced at me and complained, “What’s going on with you and Alexander lately? Neither of you come home for meals, and you’re out all night. What, you don’t like this house anymore?”

Having changed my shoes and listening to my mother’s nagging, I sat down next to her and laughed, “Mom, what are you talking about? I’ve been too busy with work recently, and there were too many things. piled up from the past few days that I had to deal with. Otherwise, with my stupid brain, the little assets you and dad left behind wouldn’t last. long before I squandered them all.”

She snorted, her temper clearly not the best, and said, “You better not be using work as an excuse.”

I chuckled, joking around, “Really? Didn’t Alexander come back last night?”

She gave me a disdainful glance, “You two weren’t together?”

I shook my head, “No!”

Mother paused for a moment, thought and said, “She might have gone to do something with that child, Marjorie.”

Marjorie?

I pursed my lips, feeling a bit curious, but didn’t ask much. Alexander seemed to have been spending a lot of time with Marjorie recently. The last time I heard, they were investigating a land subsidence issue. Logically, they should be investigating in Dracview, but now, somehow, they ended up in River City.

Could it be…

This matter. I dared not think too much about it, there was an indescribable blockage in my heart.

For several days in a row, Walter had been bringing flowers of different styles, all of which were beautiful. Looking at the fresh flowers that occupied most of the office, Alexander still couldn’t help but chatter, looking at me and asking, “Do you like flowers that much?”

I pursed my lips, “Honestly, I used to really like flowers, but now… it’s hard to say.”

Seeing me silent, Alexander said somewhat speechlessly, “Who told Mr. Hinton this terribly outdated way of pursuing? He couldn’t have only learned this one trick, could he?”

Too lazy to nag at him, I pursed my lips, raised an eyebrow at him, “What have you been busy with lately?”

He paused, frowning, “Didn’t you see? I’m working, what else could I be busy with?”

I pursed my lips, looking at him, and stopped talking.

Seeing this, he slightly furrowed his brows and said, “Don’t look at me as if I’ve been having an affair. I’ve been investigating something recently.”

Knowing what he was investigating, I paused and asked, “How’s the investigation going?”

“Not so good.” He sighed, slumping in his chair and looking at me. “Tomorrow is Christmas, I heard it’s going to snow in River City. Do you have any plans?”

Was it snowing?

Recalling the flower Walter had mentioned to me before, I hesitated for a few seconds, looking at him and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I made plans with Marjorie to spend time with the children at the welfare home. If you’re free, you can join us,” his voice was calm, revealing no particular emotion.

I knew he spent most of his time at the welfare house, knew he

occasionally volunteered there. I hesitated for a few seconds, recalled Walter’s words, paused for a few seconds and said, “Not sure yet, we’ll see tomorrow.”

He grunted, not in high spirits.

Seeing him like this, I asked, “What’s wrong?”

He pursed his lips and said lightly, “It’s nothing, just a bit tired. Oh, I’ve told Auntie Eileen, she’s coming over tomorrow too.”

I hummed in response, feeling that his mood was off.

Curious inside, but didn’t continue to ask.

When Cory came in and saw the two of us sitting in silence, he looked puzzled for a few seconds, then turned to me and said, “Something’s wrong.”

Alexander and I simultaneously looked up at him, instinctively asking,
