Chapter 401 What Did He Threaten You With? 

Perhaps she never expected that I would kowtow to her so directly. For a moment, she felt a rush of blood to her head, her chest heaving non- stop. She almost lost her balance and fell, but luckily Marjorie caught her. “Auntie Eileen, don’t get too excited,” she said. 

She looked at me, not uttering a word for a long time. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally managed to say, “Very well, Tabatha, you did well.” 

After speaking, she pushed me away abruptly, not sparing me another glance, and asked Marjorie to help her leave. 

Watching my mother being led away by Marjorie, my throat was choked with pain, my head was buzzing, and for a few seconds, even breathing was dizzying. 

I knew my mother was quite upset with me, but I had no other choice. Once Ezra took me away from River City, I would never be as lucky as I was five years ago to return. 

That was fine, at least in my mother’s heart, I was willing and happy. 

Taking a deep breath, I withdrew my gaze, stood up, and sat back down in my seat. Walter had been watching me all along, his gaze barely moving at all. 

I knew he was watching me, and I knew, his gaze was always following me. 

I composed myself, looked at him, our eyes met, and I unconsciously blurted out, “We haven’t picked up our divorce certificate yet. Let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau later and get it, shall we?”

He didn’t speak, just silently stared at me. His gaze was too intense, too aggressive. Because I didn’t know what he was thinking at that moment, I was momentarily flustered. 

“What did he threaten you with?” 

My heart skipped a beat, for a moment I almost lost control. After holding back for a few seconds, I looked at him, a puzzled expression. on my face, “What threatened me?” 

He looked at me, his dark pupils unwavering, as if trying to see right through me. His voice was low and firm, “Tabatha, you can fool everyone, but you can’t fool me. Daniel and Ezra are the same person. Even without evidence, Captain Lucas’s death is enough to explain everything. You couldn’t possibly go with him. Tell me, what did he threaten you with?” 

My hand was held by him, the warm and familiar temperature made me daze for a moment. For a few seconds, I wanted to tell him everything, but I still hesitated. 

Tell him that Ezra threatened me with his future, my life, and the lives of my loved ones? And then what? He may not care about his future, but I can’t. Ruined reputation, hundreds of lives, once the events of ten years ago are overturned, he and the entire Hinton family will never be able to turn over a new leaf in this lifetime.
