Joy blinked and thought momentarily before saying, "It's okay. If you lose your job, you can find another one."
She added, "Vivian, I don't think you need to be sad over losing your job. You should pull yourself together and find a new job. Otherwise, what will we do if we run out of money to buy food?"
Like a mature adult, Joy was already worried they might starve due to their lack of income.
Vivian burst into laughter amidst her tears. "You talk big like an adult. I love you."
Joy looked at her in disdain. "Vivian, you should wipe your snot first."
Vivian was speechless.
At night, after Joy fell asleep, Vivian went to the balcony alone to space out.
She glanced at her phone, looking for someone to chat with. After a long search, she couldn't find anyone suitable.
At midnight, her phone rang.
It was Carson.
She picked up the phone and heard Carson's soothing voice coming from the phone. "Vivian, I'm sorry. I've been too busy these past few days. Did you need me for something today?"
Vivian felt a lump in her throat, and tears fell uncontrollably.
Carson could tell that something was wrong. "What's wrong? Vivian? Are you crying?"
When Vivian called Carson's name, she choked and could not continue speaking.
Carson was highly anxious. Instead of driving home, he turned his car around and asked, "Vivian, don't cry. Where are you? I'll come to you now."
Vivian choked and said, "I'm at home."
"Okay. I'll be right there."
Ten minutes later, Carson arrived at Vivian's house.
Joy covered her face with her hands, but she was peeking through the gaps in her fingers. She declared, "I saw nothing."
Carson's face heated up. He walked over and covered her mouth, saying, "Hush. Don't say a word."
Joy chuckled and removed Carson's hand from her mouth. She asked, "Carson, are you dating Vivian?"
Carson quickly made a shushing gesture. "It's a secret, okay?"
Joy thought for a while before reluctantly nodding in agreement.
Carson felt relieved. He took a good look at Vivian before going out to buy breakfast.
Vivian was already awake when Carson returned with breakfast. After a night of adjustment, she was fully recovered. There was no trace of sadness from losing her job last night.
During breakfast, Joy kept looking at Vivian sneakily, then at Carson.
Carson was nervous, afraid that Joy would say something she shouldn't.
